He looked horrible against Bruno and that was the result not having Rooney in his corner. Rooney always made sure Tyson was prepared against his opponent, the Spinks was an example of how good Tyson was when he was properly prepared.
wow, I replied to a post right after yours and my post is almost exactly like yours. believe it or not, I didn't read your post before my post. I've actually stated the rooney factor several times before.

Tyson was a monster with rooney. He clearly changed right after he fired him, no doubt about it.

Easy one, Vitali by 8th rd KO. Simply to big for Tyson. No way does Tyson stop Vitali. He would need a latter to reach him.

What people seem to be forgetting is that even prime Tyson had the same psychological flaws that manifested themselves so spectacularly in the Holyfield fights. If he faces a guy who can take a punch and also inflict serious damage and DOES SO he'll crumble.

          Vitali by disqualification.

Tyson with an easy but gassed-out UD, since there were a fair few guys he couldn't stop even in his prime. We all know Vitali's chin is pretty damn good, so expecting Tyson to stop him would be slightly implausible considering he couldn't KO Tucker, Bonecrusher or Ruddock.

I'm sure Vitali would sneak in a few rounds when Mike gasses out in the mid-rounds, though.

Only if Vitali doesn't come to fight - like Bonecrusher. Say what you like about Vitali's legacy, standard of opponent, inactivity etc., he hits HARD (as hard as some of the heaviest hitters of all time) and he WILL hit Tyson hard.

We already know that Tyson blows a fuse whenever an opponent decides he aint going to be intimidated or bullied. I mean, with the height disadvantage he probably wouldn't be able to bite Vitali's ears off, maybe he'd take a chomp out of his penis.

I just can't buy into this Tyson mythos. Great boxers are those who overcome adversity to triumph - Ali took a brutal battering by Foreman before he came off the ropes to win, Lewis took some massive shots from Grant and Briggs and went on to KO both, Frazier's face looked like corned beef before he put Ali down. The first time Tyson faced someone who came to fight he was put on his backside (and was never the same again). It's the reason I can't include him as one of the greats.

Vitali due to his physical advantages.

I agree with all of that. Hence why I made a point in stating that it would most likely be a very drawn out UD for Tyson, especially if the Vitali who fought Sanders showed up - a nasty '80s Tyson would have him running backwards for dear life, but wouldn't be able to finish the job. Vitali's too elusive and would pawjab him at a distance all night long, whilst getting caught with bombs like he did against Sanders. Tyson would make it an inside fight, and a damn ugly one at that. Whether he snaps is down to which trainer he'd have.

With that said, since people constantly rag on about glass chins around here, doesn't Tyson technically count as glass-chinned since he was stopped 4 times and KTFO on 3 of those occasions? I've always wondered about this. They say Lennox was glass-chinned because he was out on his ass twice in his entire career, but Tyson got stopped more times. How does that work?

tyson's chin is quite good. He took a lot of punishment against Lewis. You could tell that was the only fight he gave a **** about at that stage in his career cos he didnt give up. He kept coming even though Lewis was killing him.
Lewis' chin is pretty underrated. I challenge any heavyweight in history to not get KOd by Rahman with that punch. Lewis' legs went a bit wobbly from time to time but he almost always recovered well.
