Mayweather: The Excuses Are Running Out

Seriously now, I always support technical fighters, the sport needs more of them, not these rocky clones that smack each other in the head for a bag of chips.
But if floyd weighs in at 147 against Marquez, seriously now, some of his fans have got to re consider his position in boxing, not skills wise, but legacy wise.
Marquez barley got by Juan Diaz at 135, and now 2 full weight classes up against the best boxer in the sport?
F.uck outta here.
welcome to the club...Comment

Its real simple mate who cares what they can dehydrate too , if Floyd is 147ish on the night of the fight and JMM 135ish I will agree with you 110% , but if Floyd is 147ish and JMM is 144ish on the night I will say your a goose like these others in here that dont understand weight .Comment

Barely got by? He knocked him out, you realize Diaz had never been knocked out? Probably never been down, you realize Casamayor had never been knocked out? Looks to me that JMM has been draining himself all these years and should have been moved up the way he's been knocking out bigger fighters. This is getting tired, did you complain when Floyd fought Oscar, a man much bigger, surely you didnt.
Casamayor was winning the fight until he tried to walk marquez down, one of the ******est tactics of the last few years.
And I think even in the round diaz got knocked out in, he was landing good shots on marquez, that was very close fight with marquez nearly going down, no one with a full set of frontal lobes can say he dominated in that fight.Comment

Floyd fights in the ring at 147 , Cotto fights in the ring at 160+ will the real WW please stand up , Marcquis of Queensbury would turn over in his grave .
" Jim Watt, former lightweight champion of the world turned television pundit is one of the most vocal supporters of same-day weighing in. He is one of a growing minority of people within the sport who feel that the dangers of having huge weight discrepancies between fighters are greater than the dangers of dehydration.
Watt argues that too many fighters step off the scales to go on a 24-36 hour binge and pack on as much weight as possible before the first bell. He believes it is a case of a good theory making bad practice.
"Don't get me wrong, the idea is good," said Watt when I telephoned him. "Many of the dangers of boxing have been linked with dehydration, and so giving fighters 24 hours to re-hydrate their bodies therefore must be a good idea on paper.
"But the problem is that this time period is getting abused. Fighters who should not dream of fighting at certain weights are punishing their bodies, murdering themselves, to make the limit and then rely on this period of up to 36 hours to get back up to something like normal again.
"If they had to weigh in on the day of the fight, and if they wanted to fight with any sort of strength, they would be forced to fight at a more healthy weight for their bodies. This 24-36 hour period is giving fighters a lot of incentive to fight at the wrong weight."
And the dangers are exacerbated when only one fighter packs in the pounds. "When someone fights for a title at 12 stone [168lbs], that's exactly what he's supposed to be - a 12 stone fighter. He's not supposed to be a bloody cruiserweight. It's totally unfair to those boxing at a more natural weight - the ones who aren't taking these silly chances with their health. Sometimes these guys are giving away a full stone in weight and I don't need to say that's dangerous. They are at a massive disadvantage. Essentially these fellows are punished for been sensible and abiding by the rules."Comment

Legacy wise nothing changes. Its not like i changed my position about sugar ray after fighting donnie lalande. Do i like that this happened? No. But what do you expect, everyone is already calling him a b!tch anyway for taking this fight, him moving the fight to 147 just gave people more of a reason to do what they were going to do anyway. No matter what, this fight was going to be marred in critcism on floyds part, him moving the fight to 147 doesnt make things any easier on him. I wont defend his desicion to do this, but im also not going to sit around and throw out this pretend outrage over it neither.
Still Lalonde put up a good fight and as such the fight is worth something.Comment
