Bruce Lee wanted to make a movie with a popular filipino actor from the 60s whose name escapes me at the moment who also happened to be an eskrima master.

Lee was fascinated with filipino martial arts at the time from his association with Dan Inosanto.

Anyways...he offered the guy a major movie role...but Lee wanted him to be the main villain and lose to him. Dude was irate and told Bruce Lee "the only way i will lose to you on film is if you can beat me off film" And Bruce wanted to part of it. Perhaps out of respect...but still goes along with the recurring theme here.

A myth has been broken for me though, I thought fans of boxing would know well enough that Bruce would get his ass spanked. Even in a street fight he would get his ass handled.

He didn't invent MMA either, he started Jeet Kendu.

The documented history of Bruce Lee's combat experiences are as follows:

1) Lee's brother, Robert, stated that Bruce went looking for fights in high school. Lee's nickname in high school was "King Gorilla."

2) Lee had many rooftop battles in Hong Kong with the last of these confrontations resulting in Lee seriously hurting the son of a Triad family. This fight was one of the reasons why Lee's family shipped him to the United States.

3) Lee got into 2 street fights in the early 1960's. Lee punched out a Japanese challenger in Oakland and he fought Wong Jak Man in 1964. Both fights were witnessed by several individuals.

4) Lee got into more street fights than Chuck Norris (e.g., one fight while in the service) and Bill Wallace (e.g., no street fights) combined.

5) Lee did not spar with Joe Lewis or Mike Stone, but he did spar several times with Chuck Norris and Louis Delgado. Richard Bustillio stated that Norris was "red-faced" after a sparring session with Lee and Norris confirms in his book on Zen concepts that he and Lee sparred against each other. Delgado told Fighting Stars magazine that Lee was the toughest man he ever faced.

6) Lee got into 2 fights on the set of Enter the Dragon. One fight was witnessed by Bob Wall and the other fight was witnessed by Dragon director Robert Clouse.


Thats all i can find but again like you said none of it has footage but apparently there is a criminal record for the fight in the service which i will look for, but like you said i'm putting my hands up there is no documented footage or paper work of any kind to his doing!

that's the problem. Because I know at least that there is a lot of bull**** surrounding it I 'hate' the guy. Far from it.

He was a fascinating individual and very magnetic.


But a lot of his fights (like the Triad hong kong fights) are pure HEARSAY and bs.

In terms of Bruce Lee's fighting history, if the lone criteria for documented fact involves videotaped evidence with an accompanying acknowledgement by a sanctioning sports organization, then one could make the argument that there is no proof that Sugar Ray Robinson was the greatest pound for pound fighter in boxing history. None of Robinson's fights in his PRIME were filmed which includes his first 5 fights with Jake Lamotta, his 2 fights with Kid Gavilan, and his first world title fight against Tommy Bell. The only verification we have of Robinson's prowess at his peak are eyewitness and newspaper accounts which no one can find, so really it was just stories passed down!

There are VERY few filmed fights of Helio Gracie. But you can find NEWSPAPER articles on the fights for one thing. Witnesses have written about these fights in EXACT DETAIL.

Hell even older street fights in the 30's are broken down in written detail.

How come no one does that for these Bruce Lee "triad" fights. Oh gee, I wonder why.

Your probably referring to me as the Jet Li poster, and if you look I responded pretty much right away to your initial reply, I just saw the second one about Jet Li's resume, and I think you are grouping me with the rest of the little bunch in here that think BL can whoop anyone. I agree that he was the greatest I believe he was a master martial artist. My initial response A) was not directed specifically to you, but more towards those who seemed to believe that like boxing you aren't great unless you have beaten great fighter...ok..whatever, good point I suppose I still believe based on the books I've read\martial arts studies that I've practiced, and the documentaries I've seen that he could hold his own with pretty much anyone today (we would almost have to assume though that BL would be at a much more advanced stage in his philosophies and practices so he might have more under his belt in this day and age.) B) the reference to Jet Li was again aimed at people who were posting uninformed\ignorant replies just for the sake of arguing, or maybe because they don't respect Martial Arts, and for no other reason then to spark more ignorant replies. At any rate, didn't see a reason to get all uptight and defensive about the post.
