Once again, Jones and Calzaghe wasnt a viable fight. They were just on two different wavelenghts throughout their careers in terms of marketability/name value.

Calzaghe did talk about wanting to fight Jones as early as the Reid fight. And Jones spoke about coming down to 168 to fight Joe when his opposition at 175 (bar Dariusz M) had dried up. He decided to move up to heavyweight instead, fair play to him, that was a more historically significant and financially rewarding route. So there was no "ducking" involved.

Jones got worldwide recognition for going to the olympics and getting robbed. Calzaghe got robbed of going to the olympics and wasnt even a household name in UK for years. Naz had the spotlight at the time and then Hatton. The irony is Jones shouldn't have went to the olympics and Calzaghe should have. McClellan really beat Jones. If you break Jones' resume down it's ****. His best wins are a severely weight-drained Toney and green Hopkins.

Yeah Lacy was obviously a legit threat at the time even though he was proven to be overrated. 95% of boxers, pundits, fans thought Lacy was going to destroy Lacy. Now we have all the hindsight experts who knew all along Lacy was overrated. lol

You can't blame Calzaghe for Jones, Hopkins and even Ottke, not wanting to fight him.

Calzaghe called for the fight and Showtime made the offer.

You can just picture them all shaking in there boots out of fear of a guy who fills backyard arenas in Wales to fight David Starie.
