Anybody can look good fighting second rate competition. Ask Zab. The true measure of greatness is the top notch comp you have faced and beaten. I'd rather look good losing to a great fighter than look great beating a fighter who will be forgotten before the year is out.

they co inside with one another. just look at mayweather , its basically the whole reason many people refuse to give him the best fighter or welter in the world status. however most of those same people would probobly agree he is the most skilled boxer in the world he hasnt faced the best comp wich brings him down a couple notches.

Resume is more important because it shows you put your "skills" into great use. Its the result of ur skills. They kind of go hand in hand but since the resume is the end result i consider it more important. A lot of fighters have great "skills" but they never quite put it together or refuse to showcase it against top in their divisions... So in the end what does having the great skills in that case really mean in the grand scheme of things?

            Skills mean little without resume.

Example* I can be the greates 3 point shooter on the planet. If I can't do it in the NBA, against the best, AM I REALLY THE BEST?

            Same holds true for boxing.

              perfectly said.

Look at the major pro sports worldwide. pretty much every sport your faced to play the best to be called the best. i.e. playoffs, top teams make it, best advance, etc. Would the Steelers still be considered the best team last year if they chose not play the Cardinals last year & instead the paid the Lions more to play them?

Boxing is a pro sport, same rules should apply.

Skills are for casual fans...Resumes prove your greatness...Imagine if the 85 Bears palyed the 80's Saints every game? Sure they'd look great but if they played the Steelers of the 70's and the Niners of the 80's every game they might lose here and there but they'd prove there greatness unlike playing the Saints every game!

Now that depends solely on not the name value but at time the fight happened in terms of prime not prime etc ,, I dont believe in another notch on the handle , when you beat a fighter has more value than just his name ,,,,,, but thats also assuming its boxing fans talking because they should know for example Roy Jones now is not near the value as Roy Jones before ,,, guys at the bar just know the hype ,,, so its the resume with a clause
