Shane Mosley really deserves no credit for beating Magarita

I like Mosley a lot (Good boxer) but I agree, Cotto should be higher. Mosley faced an untalented piece of garbage (Margarito) that was boxing without any advantages and Cotto had to face a dude full of plaster in his hands.

If Cotto had a chance to fight the same Margarito mosley did, Cotto would have KO him in the 3rd round.

Man, get the **** outta here with that fanboy **** you Cotto nutlick. If Margarito was plastered for Cotto then why was Paul Williams able to beat him at his own game in California which was the same place that the plaster for the Mosley fight was discovered I might add. Cotto got beat by the better man that night. Evangelista even admitted that he approved of the handwrap. It's posters like you that cause a lot of people's fondess of Cotto to evaporate. Regardless of your plaster statement. How many punches did Margarito throw against Mosley? Exactly.

Margarito doubled Cotto's output of punches, to a total of 1000+ punches. Thats why he beat Cotto. Then add that Cotto BLOCKED WITH HIS FACE, no wonder he looked the way he did.

If we are gonna say "because Cotto looked that way and Mosley didn't.. he must have been using plaster against Cotto." then Muhammad Ali used plaster/loaded gloves against Frazier in the 3rd fight. Because 2x before that, Frazier wasn't bloodied like he was in the 3rd.

Plaster in the gloves does nothing for Tonys chin, which is what allowed him to stay upright.

I agree to a certain extent, although Shane showed a lot of power. Cotto landed a lot of bombs on margarito too and he did not go down. Give Shane credit for landing the bombs that he did.

I don't think so, he saw the Cotto fight and plaster or not Cotto had poor strategy for fighting Margarito. Sugar Shane learned from Cotto's mistake and devised a solid gameplan designed to take away Margarito's best attribute which is his punch output.

Not sure if the topic creator or those in agreement with his argument realize this, but, Cotto and Shane fought two totally different fights against Margarito. The way that Miguel fought, it shouldn't be surprising that he took the beating he did. Really, how many fighters in the sport really have the stamina to run around the ring for that long while the punches he threw? Not very many. Shane didn't use nearly as much ring movement as Cotto did so he was able to sit on most of his punches and conserve his energy.

All Antonio had to do against Cotto was focus on the body and Miguel high work rate would turn against in soon enough during the night.

I give Miguel props because for a while he showed really good boxing ability. I'm not mad at him for quitting, he was taking a fierce beating. I don't fault any athlete for thinking more of their health than the satisfaction of the fans, that's dumb to me. But at the same time, I give Shane props for completely obliterating someone who hasn't been knocked out before and doing in with relative ease.
