    When Marco Antonio Barrera defeated Erik Morales in June 2002 for the WBC featherweight belt, he refused to take the WBC belt, choosing to embrace instead to be the “lineal champion"

      Belts are meaningless nowadays.

        Not a great way of counting imo, at least call it 5 weight champion, or whatever.

        Winning several belts in a division is significant and not everyone can or does move around weights so much, esp higher up.

        Although Pac's probably one of my fav's of the names mentioned, his original weight left him at an advantage, it's slightly easier to move up, for one because there's smaller gaps between the weights and there's no ceiling.

          IF Manny Pacquiao can win an alphabelt at 147 lbs. he would be the FIRST AND ONLY to ever capture belt in the ORIGINAL weight classes:

          * Flyweight (Maximum 112 pounds)
          * Bantamweight (118)
          * Featherweight (126)
          * Lightweight (135)
          * Welterweight (147)
          * Middleweight (160)
          * Light Heavyweight (175)
          * Heavyweight (unlimited)

            On paper he's a 4 time/division world champion but when he retires, boxing experts will label him as a 6 time world champion in 6 weight divisions.
