His age isn't the point. Ali should have retired when he was 33, Morales when he was 30, but Hopkins is still going strong at 44. Different fighters age differently.

Due to his lifestyle, his eating habits, his style in the ring, and the fact that he does take quite a lot of punches, he is likely to get badly beaten up if he continues to fight at genuine world class level. And because he's fought at world class level for the last four years, and is one of the richest boxers in history, there is no reason for him to fight anyone who is not world class. What would be the point?

Plus he didn't improve against Pac as most people thought he would. He didn't move his head, he didn't use his jab, he didn't move laterally. He did all those things quite well in his early career before the Tszyu fight, but seems to have forgotten how to do them now. He did those things reasonably well against Malignaggi, but not when it mattered, against Pac. So the "Mayweather effect" hasn't resuscitated his career as he had hoped it would. Barrera managed to prolong his career by changing from a brawler to a boxer, and Hatton thought he could also prolong his by adjusting his style, but it didn't work, so there's nothing worthwhile ahead for him if he carries on.

to see a man with 45-0 record in that division who fell down on the canvas like that after a short lopsided and brutal 2rnds is enough for other fighters to stop and think if they still have a chance to have a name in boxing while the pac is still here and fighting, and that includes floyd who is yet to fight a fighter in pacman whose speed and ever improving skill still have no antidote...
