Dawson was in no position to fight Calzaghe because he had a mandatory to deal with (Tavoris Cloud). It was unfortunate that Tarver activated a rematch clause. They were in no position to fight each other, would of been a great match though.

Calzaghe hasn't ''destroyed'' anyone in years, and Dawson is too big, too strong and too fast for Joe at this stage. Just because he didn't impress against a defensive minded and world class Tarver( who's never been stopped) doesn't mean he wouldn't be impressive against a more aggressive Calzaghe who would give him those countering opportunities.

Impressive or not, Dawson just walked through a top 5 light heavyweight like it was nothing. He shines against fighters who are less defensive.

Dawson would beat Calzaghe. He UD's Tarver by a very large margin AGAIN and you guys still bag on the guy. What, because he didn't knock him out, he has no chance of beating Joe. Hello ******ed boxing fans, what do you think Joe did his entire career? Styles make fights and Dawson would beat Joe. You think Dawson would fight the same fight(defensive first, offensive bursts)? Chad probably doesn't respect Joes power as much as Tarvers and probably come out more impressively and offensively. You guys are probably the same people that say this legend has no chance against this legend. Wrong, wrong, wrong logic. This is fighting and anyone can beat anyone on any given day. Oh yeah, remove Joes salty nuts from your mouth.

When was the last time Calzaghe destroyed a fighter? Think about it and come back to me.

Dawson beats Calzaghe. Ive said it for the last 2 years. Calzaghe wont be able to handle his style, power and his speed.

Joes power is overrated. I can see Dawson walking though his punches.

He had the chance to face a Prime Hopkins and Prime RJJ anda Prime Toney, but obviously wanted to stay in Wales.

Doubt he is going to face Dawson.

to begrudge a boxer retirement is ridiculous. maybe he should have fought Dawson instead of Jones (Pavlik really, seeing as no one gave two ****s about Dawson back when Pavlik was unbeaten) but he didn't. he went after a payday to retire on. didn't do his PR or legacy much good but it's an understandable decision (it doesn't actually DETRACT from his legacy contrary to popular belief however)

but to attack him for RETIRING at the age of 37 because there's some unbeaten prospect out there he didn't fight is ludicrous and unfair... boxers would never be allowed to retire until they were just about mentally ******ed from taking punches from wave after wave of the ever present new kid on the block. fortunately however it's only one or two boxers (both treated with contempt for seperate yet similar petty reasons) who seems to be held to this standard

I used to think that Calzaghe should fight him but now not so much. It's good that he retired.

you say that as if Dawson is in any way comparable to a prime Hopkins/Jones/Toney

reality check: Dawson is just some flavour of the month prospect
