Marquez, who is usually stoic, smiled much more than usual though it still wasn't for more than three minutes. At 35, he admitted only dreaming of participating in a fight of this magnitude and prestige.

"I'm very happy about this coming event. When I called Mayweather out I only hoped he would accept," said Marquez, talking about his post-fight television comments after the Diaz fight in March. "People who knew Pacquiao told me that he would never fight me again. So I felt that challenging Mayweather was my other choice, and here we are."

Later that night, following the news conference, Pacquiao fought Hatton and quickly obliterated him in less than six minutes. Once again the smaller man beat the bigger man.

Marquez watched the event in one of the seats given to him by De La Hoya. As he watched the ending you could see a trace of a smile on the Mexico City fighter.

"I never dreamed I would be fighting for this much money when I was younger," Marquez said. "I just wanted to be a champion and fight the best."

On July 18 he gets the best of both worlds.
As a fan of his ; it feels really good to know he's finally making some serious money.

His previous managers damn near ruined his career with that Chris John fiasco. (I had him winning that fight handily)

I feel alright knowing that he's finally going to make enough money to not have to worry about much, if anything, after he retires.

    Good find.

it sounds like funny business to me.

$30 million for 2 fighters without Hatton or Oscar involved?

Splitting 30 mil?! How the hell are they each gonna make more than Pac and Hatton?
I do not think these are the the base purses, but what they will make if the fight meets some fairly high number (600k+ or something like that maybe more, but it could do better so they could theoretically make more). Although the split is probably accurate 66/33.

                  Savor,

The fight economics aren't consistent. For example:

Floyd-Baldomir sold about 340K PPV buys. Floyd made approx $10 mil, and Tata made about a mil. Total purse paid out was about $12 mil (rounded up).

Pac-Morales sold about 350K PPV buys. Pac made about $4 mil, and Erik made about $3.5 mil (after PPV royalties). Total Purse of $8 mil.

It is these inconsistencies and promoter cuts that led Floyd to go off on King and Arum at the NABJ Conference Roundtable two years ago.
