COme one. 4 lineal titles in 4 different weight classes.. Who else done that?? Whitaker and De La HOya couldn't even do that
Some people really get carried away with this lineal bull****. That title is too diluted to take seriously. There are top fighters that Pacquiao did not fight at 130-135 (Valero,Guzman,Cambell) and no one can truly say he beat the best at 135 or that he cleared out the division at 130. What Whitaker did at 135 is more complete than anything Pacquiao did at 130-135-140. There are a lot of top fighters from those divisions that will never be matched with Pacquiao. Beating Hatton was big but it doesnt mesan he cleaned out the division when you still have young top fighters there.
Pea much better technical fighter than Pacquiao. But Pacqiuiao is much more exciting than whitaker more than anything. The filipinos career is not yet over we'll where he ends after that. I believe the reason why people like atlas, dundee, etc doesnt like pacquiao is because of his style this old school trainers have'nt seen anybody fight like him. Even emmanuel stewart said that of all his years in boxing he never saw anybody fight like pacquiao. He's more of a boxer, brawler type not much technicality but his speed and quickness makes his style effective. i really dont see pacquiao as a boxer the kid is a fighter. He is one for the ages, we won't see any fighter who fights like him in a hundred years.
I agree with the bold. He's unique in the way that Mike Tyson was unique. He's a special fighter. I've heard people who are not even fans of boxing, talk about his fight with Hatton. Pacquiao is bringing new fans to the sport. It's been years since I've heard regular people talk about boxing like they way they're talking about it now. And that's a direct result of Manny Pacquiao's great ring performances.
I was a boxing fan in the 80s with SRL, Duran, Hearns & up to Tyson. After Tyson lost his mind by chewing Holyfield's ear, that's the last time I follow boxing. I hear this names Chavez, Sweepea, DLH, Trinidad, Barrera, hamed, Morales starring the Boxing world in the 90s but they just names to me. They really never capture me as a sports fan.
These 90s era for me was the Jordan era. Everything in sports was below Jordan. For us it's not necessary for us to have HBO/SHO just to follow boxing. Nobody there really captured my attention after Tyson. Well DLH was there dominating the scene but for us, he's just like a Pretty face that sells tickets. I've seen his fights with Chavez & Trinidad but I say to myself, this guy is no SRL or Duran. Sweepea for me is just one of the fighters that is on DLH's hit list. For us he;s not a must see guy.
Then came Nov 2003, I saw the ESPN news, A Filipino beating A Legendary Barrera!! So I check some Pinoy news & I get interested. Then Finally X-mas 2003 we finally got a Hold of the tape of this fight. After rd 2 & 3... I was in Awe... I can't believe that this Filipino has the flash of a SRL, Hearns & Duran in him. I was so impressed that after the Party, I spend the whole night researching on this guy. Finally got a hold of his Boxrec & in 2 weeks time & got a hold of his 12 fight collection before the Barrera fight. After I watched all those fights. It becomes clear in my mind that this new Boxing star is in the Mold of an ATG like the SRL & Duran.
Fast forward today, what else did this little dynamo achieved? All Time Greatness my Friends!!! In 2003, in my first viewing on this guy, I already likened him to be comparable with the 80s Greats. Today He's achieved more than the 80s Greats. That's How I rate this little Guy now. He's already my top 10 ATG. Pacquiao now for me is the Greatest Boxer that I have seen in my Lifetime. Sweepea is not even belongs in those debates coz I've never seen him live(on TV) in my lifetime. I wonder why???
