FLoyd is not even a good "bad guy". He is just so damn corny and annoying as hell. paulie malignaggi is a better **** talker and a better "bad guy" then floyd.

The classic "bad guy" at least has carisma. Floyd has "zero" carisma and obnoxious.

All he talks about is money and that routine is so old and tired.

floyd's only fans are the type that drive cars where the rims are worth more then the car itself. Those people have no class like Floyd.

Except Ali's trash talk was alway from a good hearted joking place. You could see the smirk on his face when he said stuff, trying to hold back the laughter. With Floyd, hes just a straight up prick.

Ali was an ******* from what I've seen and alot of people have come to love him.
He had the Vietnam War to fight against, Black Movement, and Parkinsons which shut his mouth.

That's why I'm suggesting to get rid of it. Although you can't deny that his act did work. Where was he before he started the act? He wasn't on PPV.

If Floyd was even decent at playing a badguy it would be one thing, but it is fake as hell. That isnt who Floyd is and its obvious. He is a great boxer mixed with a ****ty drama student/wwf wrestler. The moron fans who buy into the "Make it rain in da club" attitude are who really confuse me.

Exactly. He played the good guy against Judah and that got him nowhere. De La Hoya-Mayweather would have sold 500K-1M less with him trying to play the good guy. There's too many fighters playing the good guy role in boxing anyway and a lot of them can't really be a heel to sell a fight. Imagine Mosley, Cotto, Pacquiao, or Marquez trying to play bad guy.

And tbh black fighters that don't act like Mayweather act don't sell much.

alot of it has to do with as black people, we have to compete with alot more than other ethnicities, we have superstars in EVERY sport, were used to seeing our guys at the top, and when that happens, the public isnt as captivated unless you do something to stand out. As americans, we dont really get behind our fighters, i mean a guy like pac, who is not an american national, will have far more support among americans than mayweather. A mexican like vargas had 10x the support of an olympic hero in de la hoya. People would just rather turn the other cheek toward american fighters to be honest. Even fighters who are truely american like a fernando vargas and fought on the olympic team representing america, essentially play roles favoring their grandmothers ethnic background to garner attention and support, its just how it is here.

George was able to pull that incredible transformation off because he always seemed genuine, bad guy or good guy. Floyd comes off as phony in my opinion and will never acheive that kind of adulation because of it. That said.....I don't personaly like him, but his schtick works. Even bad publicity is good publicity. Or so they say.
