Personally, I just wish the two fanbases would STFU about it all already.

    Naturally, I prefer boxing.

I don't watch MMA, but I don't knock it either. It's just not my style.

The only thing that ever bothers me about the whole "boxer vs. MMA guy" debates, is the way 99.9% of people say that in a real fight scenario, a boxer would have no chance at all against an MMA dude.

I'd agree that the MMA guy would obviously have the advantage, with street fighting rules.

But facing a pissed off boxer with no gloves on in a dark alley isn't exactly a cake walk.

All it takes is one shot to end a fight.

Yes I understand what a double standard is, I think it's you who are missing my bigger point.

Talking about a double standard some fan base or the medai has put is just as ****** as compairing the two sports.

We all know what the result would be either way, so it's ****** to make compairisons, make a double standard favoring one or the other or just compairing them in general...

            agreed.

i LOVE boxing but i "like" MMA. id consider myself pretty knowledgeable in mma as i've seen many ufc/pride fights. i think its the 2nd best sport out there compared to boxing.

but i totally agree about the boxer vs. mma street fight thing. anything can happen in a street fight between two highly trained FIGHTERS. how can an MMA fan say a boxer has no chance when a huge majority of fights end in a knockout via punches? boxers that reach the top, MASTER their craft, and are much more skilled than the top guys in MMA.

but i have to say, id much rather watch the beauty and skill of boxing over mma.

You ought not to listen to most MMA fans.

Its like floyd said.....you can come off the street and become a champion in mma, but its a longer and tougher road to the top in boxing.

I know a fighter who became a good boxer. He lost to barrera and to morales, partly due to an unforunate eye injury from sparring. After hanging up his boxing gloves he went on to become a kickboxing champion in which he said he owed alot of his success to boxing.

I used to think chuck lidell and other heavy strikers in the ufc had a punchers chance, but that was back when i got caught up in all the hype.

With all the great match ups lately in boxing, mma is looking more like bar brawls and tough men competitions.
