Mayweather vs. Pavlik or JMM vs. Mayweather. Equally (un)fair?

not at the slightest. Mayweather started his career at 130 while JMM at 126. so, according to your "weight" argument, Mayweather facing a 154 pounder would equal JMM fighting Mayweather if we're purely basing this on weight.
and I know that if mayweather fought spinks at lmw, nobody would be crying about how unfair this fight would be for mayweather including the mayweather nuthuggers.Comment

So now Floyd Mayweather fights JMM at 144-145 lbs thereby forcing him to move up 2 full weightclasses.
Wouldn't it be the same as Mayweather fighting Pavlik at 158?
Facts:
Mayweather has fought 5 fights at or above welterweight.
JMM has fought only twice as a lightweight.
Which matchup seems most fair to you or would you consider those fights equally (un)fair?
That said, all Mayweather would really need to do to beat Pavlik would be to avoid getting hit. I wouldn't be surprised if Mayweather-Pavlik looked like Toney-Ruiz.Comment

It's true. You're definitely right about that. But Mayweather and Marquez have been successful going up in weight because they're good defensively. Not to rip on Hatton, but the reason he wasn't successful going up in weight is mainly because he's not good defensively and probably never will be. I wouldn't ever expect Marquez to get blitzed out like that because he can defend himself.Comment

It's not even close to the same thing. Mayweather started his career at 130. Was never even considered "big" at 135, 140 or 147 much less 154. Marquez started his career at 126, but looked stronger at 135 than he has at 130.

Mayweather started at 130 pounds. Marquez, as far as I know, started at 126. They are the same.
This isn't like Pacquiao and De La Hoya, where De La Hoya started about 30 pounds bigger than Pacquiao.
We're talking about two natural lightweights fighting as welterweights.
And I'd still take Mayweather over Pavlik at 158. In fact, I don't think I would even give Pavlik much of a chance to be perfectly honest.Comment
