I think this is the worst sport of any to actually "do it for the fans" considering you can die in the ring, I think boxing has a way of choosing its occupants rather than the opposite, in the fact that boxing is a hard way to make a living. Floyd doesnt get credit for anyone he beats and its probably turned him sour(this happened to Vernon Forrest some years back). But I think anything Floyd does out of weight classes he really doesnt belong in are icing on the cake and should be looked upon as daring instead of the reaction he gets for not fighting guys who actually belong at classes above 147(even though this fight is at a catchweight). Trust me if Miguel went to 168, his fifth class and fought contenders Id take my hat off to the guy.
How can someone like floyd feel he has "fought the best", when he skipped all the top guys at welter? (save the baldomir "linear" excuses, that fight was crap). And if a guy has already made millions of dollars, and truly feels he has fought the best, then step aside and get out of the way. Let someone else earn. Otherwise its nothing more than a cash grab, which is exactly what I call it. These type fights are preventing there from being any clarity within the divisions, because everyone else sits around waiting to see what they are gonna do. For example, aside from our legal situation with King, we couldnt negotiate a fight with Marquez because they wanted to wait and see what happened with Pac-Hatton.

I don't give him respect for fighting a 135 pounder. a Old 135 pounder at that who's never fought above 140 in his life.

This is crap, there are people even at 140 he could fight. His legacy won't mean **** if he doesn't fight 147 people now, what's a old 135 pounder who's best day are gone going to do for him? just money but that's about it, respect isn't there.

Not the fight I'd pick. If its a tuneup I respect it though. Either way I'm glad to see Floyd back in the ring...

I agree with this post completely. I understand that fighters, once they reach a certain level of success, are concerned with more with the larger payday and the "proving" element that got them there in the first place is no longer a priority. To us as fans, we appreciate the mega fights as everyone does, but the legitimacy of clearing out a division and truly establishing yourself as a champion no longer seems to hold any water in today's boxing business. It seems the only fighters who care about unifying a division are the up and coming champions that HAVE to do it to become established, whereas the FMJ's of the world can pick and choose their opponents and are no longer held to the stringent standards of what a "real" champion is supposed to be, and people are tired of it, especially in FMJ's "I'm the best ever" statements. It's self serving and in reality it cannibalizes legitimacy and further erodes the sport.

I'm sure I'll get some heat for this, but somebody had to say it.

WOW. Unbelievable fight. This is Marquez's response to Pac-DLH and although I think he's wayyy in over his head, this is going to be a GREAT fight. I know that Floyd's bigger but who cares. Marquez is is top 3 p4p and he'll put on a great show. The current best boxer vs the current best counterpuncher. Insane....

I hope everyone recognizes that these are special times that we're in, witnessing one historical fight after the other. In recent years, we've witnessed history and this is just another installment.

                  Floyd UD.
