me as a fan don't really care if cotto fights for vacant belts or if he has ever gotten a lineal belt.
1. miguel cotto defended those vacant belts against some of the best in the division.
2. mayweather got the lineal title at 147 from carlos baldomir. do you honestly think cotto wouldn't have beaten carlos baldomir if given the chance?
In 2006
The top 2 man in the welterweight division were
zab judah and carlos baldomir.
and Floyd Mayweather beat them both. before Miguel Cotto even came to the welterweight division.
In 2006
Miguel Cotto was fighting
Ricardo Torres at 140
Gianluca Branco at 140
Paul Malignaggi at 140
Carlos Quintana at 147 first fight.
[By that Time Floyd Already beat Carlos and Zab and won the lineal WW championship.]
So When do you think Mayweather vs. Cotto should have happen?
2007
Mayweather fought de la hoya in the biggest selling fight and boxing history
and then Mayweather fought and destroyed Undefeated Ricky Hatton and highest grossing non-heavyweight fight not involving de la hoya.
2006 : Cotto fighting at Jr. WW while Floyd was fighting Welterweights
2007: Floyd was Fighting Jr. Middleweights and making history. and defeating another top undefeated fighter.Comment

it would have been nice if he fought marg or cotto after he had gotten paid.
but he didn't.
he retired.
now he's coming back from retirement.Comment

Mayweather had no balls but is tough enough to go up 5 divisions and beat the #1 JMW. Let's see Cotto go up to Super Middleweight and beat Carl Froch or whoever the #1 in that division is. Cotto wouldn't even have the balls to "cherry pick" a Super Middleweight.Comment

All of the titles he has won are great accomplishments, and Floyd is a special and extremely talented fighter which is why better is expected of him. He can fight better opponents and accomplish much more than he already has but has refused to and that seems to be what some fan's beef is with him. I remember in the prefight bs with Gatti he said that Gatti was a C+ fight, and all I could of was; why are you fighting him then? but hey wtf, what other 145lb guy can say he beat The Big Show?Comment
