    Oscar weighs in on who's the better coach..

    Oscar De La Hoya - "Both of them will get you in tip-top shape," said De La Hoya, whose company, Golden Boy, promotes Hatton and is co-promoting the fight with Top Rank. "They'll train you, they'll make you run many miles, they'll make sure you're in the best shape of your life for that fight. The difference with Freddie and Mayweather is, I think, Mayweather is more technically sound when it comes to using different combinations with the mitt work. Freddie, he'll have you throw combinations, but it's a repeated combination over and over and over. The strategy really isn't 100 percent."

    "I love Freddie Roach to death, I really do. Nothing personal to him, but from my experience, Floyd really had me at the top of my game."

    Now, while I think both are very good trainers, I do think Floyd Sr. is the better trainer. I only say this because of what fighters have said about him. DLH used to say that he would wake up in the middle of the night and have Floyd Sr. standing over him telling him to get up it was time to train.

    DLH said Floyd Sr. was just relentless in the way he would push you both physically and mentally. He also knows the fight game very well...technically.

    So who do you guys think is the better TRAINER not who has the better fighter?

        I think they are two of the best in the business, just look at what they've done with the fighters they've trained. However, Floyd Sr seems to have an edge IMO

          considering that floyd sr was actually a top level champion boxer and freddy roach is just a bum I'd say Floyd sr knows far more of the nuances of boxing and is a better trainer.

              people think Roach is so great just cus he trains manny to kill a bunch of geriatric pre-retirement mexican ex-champs, but they forget how many other fighters roach has or had that all lost or were brutally KTFO. they forget the countless promises roach made that were all proved untrue.
              I mean **** just last week Roach was in Gerry Penelosa's corner when Juanma dominated and destroyed him. Roach was the one that threw in the towel.
              And remember when Roach started training Andrei Arlovsky in boxing a few months ago and it was hailed as such a big thing in UFC because here was one of boxing's greatest trainers training the UFC guy how to box. Roach boasted and bragged for months that under his tutelage Arlovsky had become such a great boxer that he would not only easily dispose of Fedor Emelianenko in his upcoming bout but that he would bring him into boxing and that Arlovski was going to beat the Klitschkos because that's how good he was. Supposedly he was so far superior to Fedor in the stand up game due to Roach's 'immaculate' tutelage that the only chance Fedor stood was on the ground.
              Well unfortunately for Roach and his 'impeccable' training techniques this is what happened to Arlovski in the first round against Fedor:

                Floyd Sr. seems the better coach/trainer in knowing the "art" of boxing. Or in other words, he is the better "Teacher." He could mold someone from the ground up and make his student a better fighter than Roach if he had the same student.
                But, Floyd might be a real strict ******* in doing things his way...but, if it works to build Champions...stay the course. He may have been better off in the Olden Days.

                Roach seem very likeable which can help a fighter emotionally but technically, I don't think he is better than Sr. Sr. seems like that hard-headed Father that will plan out your day and tell you when to **** by breaking you down and building you up to be the machine he wants; and if you can handle that, your're Gold. Although it seems he maybe have calmed down with age a bit.

                I would say Sr. may be closer to Larry Brown {NBA}

                    I disagree: Roach did help Arlovski become a better hand-striker. Not only that, but before that big punch, Fedor was having trouble and was being broke down. It was the ****** mistake from Arlovski that ended the fight.
                    He knocked Fedor back into the ropes and Arlovski did a flying knee while leaving his hands down....instead of just continuing his attack with his feet planted on the ground like he was doing prior.
