But if Hatton puts in a very good performance vs Manny that will mean he has put in 2 good performances in a row, add that to his Castillo and Tyszu wins and he's got to be up there.

You look at the other fighters who can claim the title

Hopkins? As you say you have to be consistant which Hopkins has not been in the last 3-4 years.

JMM? 2 losses in last 3 years, including one to the current champ

If Hatton wins while i agree it's not clear cut but there simply won't be a stand out p4p no.1, if Hatton was to go on and win another big fight he'd be no.1 without doubt.

It takes more than just a string of victories, it also has to do by how great you look in those victories.

i think then Pacquiao's own credentials have to be re-examined temporarily and have a bit of a reshuffle

Vazquez, the Marquez bros, Hopkins... Hell, even Mosley, Calderon and Cotto would find themselves higher than before

yes and hatton has looked good in all his victories, people say he looked **** against lazcano and while he didn't look brilliant he still only lost 2 or so round.

there was a thread about this topic some time ago....

i can see hatton being above marquez, no matter the number, for the simple fact as hatton said today, "he's about to beat a guy marquez lost to TWICE."

                  Def not number one,
he hasnt fought enough good fighters in his career.
Top 5 maybe at max if he beats manny,
Manny deserves to be up there

If Hatton was number 3 and then he beat Manny then he would be number one, coming from number 8 to number one will not happen with one fight.
Hatton lost to Mayweather, struggled to beat Lazcano, beat Malignaggi. His recent victories are not against quality people.
Hopkins lost controversially (depending on which side you are on) to Calzaghe then beat Pavlk who was now highly rated.Hopkins hasnt lost many rounds in his career, same with Marquez, all these guys have been proved at the highest level.
If Haton beat Pacman,he will be number 5 or 4,if he beat someone else he will probably be 3 (depending on how others are performing),if he beat another good person then he would be the best.
Pound for pound are ratings, ratings use points, you accumulate points for you to go up thats why it takes a few fights from where he is at the moment.
