    Why wouldn't Hatton be p4p no.1?

People are saying it as though it's so clear that he wouldn't, why wouldn't he?

Everyone on here says it's dead certain that JMM would go upto no.1 but why? he's lost 2 in the last 3 years, yet Hatton looses 1 and gets hammered for it (Despited it being to the p4p no.1 of our era)

Hatton is currently no. 8 and about to face no. 1, pretty much everytime someone beats the p4p king they jump alot more then 7 spaces, look at Marg vs Cotto, he beat him and went straight to no. 1

He sure as hell is up there. Infact i reckon depending on if/how he wins it will be Hatton no.1 and Pacman no.2, even if Pac looses he should be higher then JMM.

because he's simply no where near the best boxer in the sport

he gets a temporary top 5 place out of respect for his win, but once the real top dogs get back to work he will fall fast i imagine

Hatton is down there in the rankings.Beating Manny will move him up a bit but not that much.He would need to perform consistantly well over a long time to be pound for pound number one.He would need about 3-5 fights doing good work to get to number one.

Hatton did win his fight after Floyd, that was against a restaurent waiter who had retired and he really had to fight hard to win that fight.Paulie wasnt a Mayweather either. To be pound for pound number one takes a lot.

Manny will lose his spot if he loses but the replacement wont be Hatton.

This is an interesting topic. What about the manner of his win, if hatton wins?

For example, what IF (speaking hypothetically here), its a complete shutout and he dominates Manny, the same way Manny dominated oscar? Surely dmonating the current p4p #1 would be enough reason for him to claim that title?

You don't seem to understand how it works. If you beat the best you are the best.

            Paul Malignaggi

            Juan Lazcano

            Jose Luis Castillo

            Juan Urango

            Luis Collazo

            Carlos Maussa

            Kostya Tszyu

Is a decent list of wins to have on your profile, add Manny to that and you're going to be up near the top.

Perform consistantly? He's lost 1 fight and that was to the best who is now retired, JMM is hardly a nailed on for the spot, if he goes above Pacman just because Hatton beat him it will be a joke.

If Hatton beats Manny by say, battering him for 7 rounds and then koing him, he'll be no.1. All fighters/promoters seem to agree, the only people to disagree seem to be the people on here.

Pound for pound is not a belt. When you beat the best it means the best has gone down the rankings but you need to beat more to prove you are the real thing.Mind you when Hatton wins (if),you now compare Hatton to the JMM,Mosley,BHop,Vazquez and every other boxer. If you say Hatton is better than everyone then he would be number one,in this case he wont be because he would still need to beat more quality fighters to get that status
