Better? In theory. But as effective?

Malignaggi doesn't count, he posed no threat, by dint of being barely able to put a combination together. So let's see this seamless confluence of Hatton's rugged physicality and Mayweather's technical augmentation in practice.

Until we see some evidence, I don't want to hear about this Ricky being superior to the pre 2008 model. Improvements are only improvements if they're effective. One thing Hatton always did at his most effective was set about his task with conviction and gusto. If he comes out against Pac, is unable to execute it how Sr. told him to, starts taking a hiding and then looks hesitant and in 2 minds until he's knocked out...that isn't an improvement.

But Infern0's right. If Ricky comes out looking to implement this new, more measured, technical approach, he does have a Plan B, if it isn't already too late by the time he elects to use it - Backsliding.

      It's hard to say.

He beat Paulie but Paulie by his own admission couldn't get off the punches because he was scared to throw in fear of breaking his hands that had been cracked so many times and needed surgery. It's like a RB {NFL} that is afraid to "cut" when running.

And before Paulie, even though he beat Lazcano, he didn't look good winning at all and people were saying he was past his best.
In fact, Freddie Roach said that Floyd Mayweather Jr. took something out of him and the fight against Paulie basically didn’t prove much.
Roach also mentioned how Pac told him that he would rather face Floyd than Hatton since Floyd already beat him.

It would have been nice to see Hatton in with another "live" fighter other than Paulie before he faced off against Pac to help determine better where he is at both Mentally and Physically as a fighter. If Hatton shows up at his absoulte best and we know Pac should...then I would say I might favor Hatton slightly...but wouldn't be surprised if either knocked each other out.
A close fight that goes to the score-cards gets a rematch which might be good for boxing.

I'm hoping he isn't past it because I want to see a great fight. Pac is on top of his game and if Hatton shows up like he did against Lazcano....Good Night.

He certainly looks better in the gym. Constantly throwing wide shots on a man in a fat suit wasn't the best preparation for FMJ!

His training is far more thoughtful now. Padwork with an emphasis on speed and timing can only make you a better boxer, right? I guess we'll find out on saturday.
