Self-hatred at its finest. Sadly, a lot of Black people want to be white too. I blame it on the Western whitewashing of history. Maybe if Blacks were aware that they brought forth language, science, math, philosophy, etc. they wouldn't feel so bad about themselves. Remember the one drop rule? Someone needs to explain it to that 80%.
Is Miguel Cotto a mulatto?

White/Black - Mulato
Taino/White - Mestizo
Taino/Black - Zambo
Obviously the huge majority of PR is mulato. The one-drop rule in reverse is in total effect here, and damn near anyone who isn't as black as Tito considers themselves white.Comment

Couldn't agree more. However, I'd like to correct my man ChampBox's post. He really didn't get the names of the mixtures right.

The black commununity does not consider PR black even if it's physically obvious with some Puerto Ricans . Roberto Clemente is a black male so is Tito Trinidad and I have respect for both. I'm a light PR and I embrace all my Islands Icons with Pride. If African Americans feel so addiment about Puerto Rican confessing theire blackness then they should advacate on our behalf , or encourage it by putting preasure for us to be mentions in any black history honors or prominent awards given to blacks. They put Bob Marley up thats a Mulato and from our next door nieghboring Country that also carry Tiano blood and African .Comment

I don't think African-Americans on this board are pleading with Puerto Ricans to admit their Black heritage. They're just laughing at the ones who search under every rock to validate the white strands they find.

Another poster brought up the statistic. Not that it surprises me, it doesn't. I never cease to be amazed by those who feel superiority because of lies that are entrenched in our history books and society itself--but what's not surprising to me is the number of those who feel inferior and thus, want to ignore or refuse to accept their heritage.Comment

Not true with Puerto Ricans becouse were very proud of our African and Tiano Roots. Most of our Typical Music ,ART ,Dance and poetry displays this. You should look up Afro -puerto Rican Music and Extra, and you will be suprised to see how much Puerto Rico has embrassed their African Roots.Comment
