Case in point; during PBF-DLH, I found myself trying to convince my friends to NOT start our poker game early. By the 6th round, they had lost all interest…I spent the rest of that fight trying to educate them on the intricacies of the sweet science and that the fight was not ‘boring’….even my boxing buds began waning and just sat there…

That same group came over a few weeks after and my cousin was watching Chico-JLC….guess what? They all sat down and watched, and cheered as if they were watching live….they even rewound the tape to watch it DURING our poker game

Those are the types of fights, as a boxing fan, that I WANT to showcase…not some fight that HBO is shoving down our throats
GENERALLY SPEAKING, great fighters have few boring fights.

For example: how many PBF fights were boring? How many DLH, Trinidad, Pacquiao, etc fights are boring? You generally can't go wrong with watching the top guys. You just have to get the fans in.

The problem with the HUGE superduper Mega-events are that they seldom CAN live up to their billing. SRL-Hagler. Ever watch that? In fact, ever watch SRL-Duran 1 or 2? Here are some of Oscar's big fights that I don't think you would be excited to go back and watch:

              Hopkins
              Whitaker
              Trinidad
              etc...

People remember Oscar as this toe-to-toe guy. The reality is that it was Mayorga, Quartey, Vargas that DRAGGED that out of him. Oscar wasn't exactly providing Gatti-Ward replicas every time out. Nahmean?

I always get a chuckle when people say that Floyd (or whoever) is a runner. When the reality is that SRL won his biggest fights by getting the **** outta there (notable exception for Hearns fight).

But he won't get his fights because there's no "public demand" to see him. Thus, the networks won't shell out the money.

P-Dub will be a classical example of a "fan's fighter". Shane is a "fan's fighter" with mainstream name recognition, but no mainstream appeal. Which is why he is still begging for fights.

Hatton is huge in the UK (and colonies/former colonies), I wouldn't say he's huge in the US though.

hence; my choice for reputation...i would rather go 'sure-fire' with a bout that has both fighters with the reputation for entertaining....this, as a boxing fan, is how i want them to view the sport....
