manny is a fighter and if the fight doesn't actually become a fight or if the fight is not goin the way he wants he starts to look sad an depressed and if manny gets in the ring with floyd he will be frustrated, he has never fought anyone like floyd everyon manny fights comes to fight he has never fought a slick style boxer like a demi hopkins or a zahir raheem who made morales look horibble so why do people automaticlly assume he can mess with floyd mayweather

Let me ask you a question; don't you think the main advantage that Margarito would have had in a matchup against Mayweather would have been the fact that Mayweather was not really a natural welterweight, but instead someone who used his skills, talent and ring smarts to help him fight at the higher weight? If this fight were taking place at a weight where JMM would be at his best, then your thread would have merrit. But we're talking about a small LW to begin with. A lot of JMM's success has been due to his precision reflex punching which he will be losing with the weight he will be putting on. Pacquiao has shown to carry his best qualities to 147 with no problem. This fight is perfect for Floyd because ALL the advantages go to him.
I mean let's be honest, Floyd is a smaller welterweight. He's comfortable at the weight especially since he hasn't fought below the weight since June 2005, but it's not like he's this big strong 147 lber right? That's why Margarito wanted to fight him so bad right? Because he knew he was much bigger and stronger than Floyd (plus he knew that while Floyd was throwing leather he'd be throwing cinder blocks).
But beyond that, do we really know that Manny takes his power up to 147 with no problem? We know that he takes his speed up to 142 with no problem, but we've never seen him fight at 147. We've never seen him against a fast 147 lb fighter. So, there's still plenty that we don't know about Manny at that weight.
Marquez, on the other hand, wins fights by doing things that aren't nearly as dependent upon weight. He throws accurate punches. He defends himself well. He counters, he uses deft footwork to stay out of range, but close enough to get into position quickly and under control. All he really needs is enough speed to stay with Floyd and enough power to keep him honest. If he could do that then the fight would come back to a matchup of skills (I know I know; how fu(king BORING!!! right?...right?).
But I digress, you know everything and you don't think Marquez has a chance because big bad old Floyd rigged the deck against Marquez and now Juan Manuel has absolutely no chance.Last edited by javelin_fangs; 04-28-2009, 12:37 AM.Comment

So JMM is a small LW who was the same size if not bigger then Diaz and stopped him? and Floyd is a huge WW too, right? Thats basically your point. JMM is a super small LW while Floyd is a super huge WWIf this fight were taking place at a weight where JMM would be at his best, then your thread would have merrit. See, I try to have a civil debate with you and you revert to childish sarcastic retorts. Then you start crying about people hating on Mayweather. Anyway,Let me ask you a question; don't you think the main advantage that Margarito would have had in a matchup against Mayweather would have been the fact that Mayweather was not really a natural welterweight, but instead someone who used his skills, talent and ring smarts to help him fight at the higher weight?

Margarito wanted to fight both Oscar AND Floyd. I don't know why Floyd fans, mostly, want to pretend that Margarito only wanted Floyd and thats it. He had been calling out both for the longest time. Not because of any advantage he had over there, but because they were the most lucrative fights in the division he was in. Another thing, why WOULDNT Margarito want to fight the person who is making the most noise IN that division? If you were Margarito, you wouldnt have called out Floyd?
Now, you asked that in a manner in which suggested that Floyd didn't belong in that division. You have to ask yourself, how many WW did Floyd fight? If he fought more than 2, than he damn well deserved to be called a LEGIT WW.
You say Floyd is a small WW, well, EVERYONE knows Marquez is a SMALL LIGHTWEIGHT. A SMALL 135lbr.
Now, if he's a small lightweight, what do you think he would be at JWW? How bout WW? Lets be REALISTIC here. Marquez doesn't have the physical frame to carry extra muscle and weight effectively.
He wasnt dominating both the Casamayor and Diaz fights. He was losing both fights up until the KO's. Why? Because his abilities were pushed to the breaking points.
At 140, he may be effective. He may still retain some of his reflexes and power. Anything above, well, against someone like MAYWEATHER, those are attributes he cannot afford to lose, but he will. Mayweather is not Diaz. Mayweather is not Casamayor. But, naw, lets go ahead and pretend this fight is dead even. When Mayweather beats Marquez, he would have beaten another fighter that was supposed to give him another challenge which pushed Floyd to show and prove that he deserves to be mentioned above the likes of Robinson and Ali. Thats what you guys love to do anyway.Comment

CRAZY..the only fighters who can give floyd trouble are...but I believe that Juan Manuel Marquez has a better chance of beating Floyd Mayweather Jr. than Manny Pacquiao. Manny Pacquiao is a rhythm fighter. Marquez upset his rhythm for extended periods and controlled him. The fact that Pacquiao is bigger than Marquez was what helped him walk through fire to beat Marquez.
But Pacquiao is not bigger than Floyd. So, when Floyd disrupts his rhythm he doesn't have a whole lot else to fall back on except his warrior's spirit and a hope that Floyd wears out. Marquez, on the other hand, is one of the few fighters who can match skills with Floyd in the center of the ring. I'd even go so far as to say that if Marquez wins the jabbing contest Floyd will be the one trying to find a way to come from behind in the second half of the fight.
Again, I know that a lot of you are gassed on Manny Pacquiao, but he can't match skills with Floyd the way Marquez can. Mayweather-Pacquiao could end up being a one-sided blowout for Mayweather. I think Mayweather-Marquez has a much better chance of being competitive and it wouldn't even surprise me if its really close.
pacquiao
and
cotto
mosley is too beatable for floyd. easy work.Comment
