That fight would be a good one...

Calzaghe doesn`t have the power to KO Froch, and Carl has the endurance and the power to make a great active fight through the distance...

No way calzaghe fights froch. Carl's too young & risky to meet joe's requirement of old shot supertars or undefeated hype jobs.

Prime vs prime Calzaghe wins. No question.

But if Joe were to come out of retirement I think it would be closer than many people believe. The concern for Joe is the fact that in his last two fights he's hit the canvas. Now, you can say this is because Hopkins and Jones are that much harder hitters than Joe's previous opponents. But I don't think this is the case. Or not entirely. Calzaghe has faced hard hitters in the past (Kessler, Eubank, Lacy) and he didn't hit the canvas. We have to remember that he's way past the average age of prime (25-29). I think his advancing years have played at least some role in his poor early showing in the last two fights. Maybe his chin his weaker, or maybe his defences don't react as quickly, or maybe his awareness isn't quite what it used to be. Or maybe all of these.

There's zero chance of Joe putting Froch away early so it's back to doing a full twelve rounds. Only it'll be a lot harder than the Jones fight where he had free reign to do what he liked past the third. Is he up to doing twelve hard rounds once more? We know that Froch will be there in the final round throwing haymakers so it's into the trenches once again.

What I wouldn't like to see is Calzaghe catching Froch easily for seven or eight rounds and then running out of steam - getting hit increasingly more often with heavy shots.

We know that Froch wants this fight more than anything in the world. And he's prepared to fight to a standstill. I'm not sure that Joe is similarly motivated. He's achieved all he wanted to.

As great as Joe is - he has no business entering the ring against a hungry and dangerous fighter if he's unmotivated. He stands the risk of getting beat. Hurt. And perhaps hurt badly.

        Totally unnecessary.

Nice post, i agree with most of what you said

but i still think Calzaghe would school this guy....even tho hes past his best, Froch is just trying to get recognized by calling out Calzaghe.

No, he isn't a match for Calzaghe. Joe would completely box circles around him.

It was a great and dramatic win for Froch the other night. That doesn't change the fact that he has significant limitations that truly elite fighters like Calzaghe can take advantage of.

Calzaghe hurts no one... Illegaly slaping his way to a points win is his only chance...

There a guy called Robin Reid who nearly beat the Oh mighty Calzaghe. Froch is always in with a chance.

                  Absolutely agree!

I also think that Calzaghe`s punching power is far from being called "destructive"... even taking to consideration the fact that Froch would have to move one division up to face Joe in the hypothetic fight... Joe`s power wouldn`t disturb Carl much, and he will be likely to throw A LOT of very hard punches...

I don`t that Calzaghe can gas out... He showed great endurance in all of his fights... But i don` think that he is durable enough (especially now) to handle the preassure Froch might bring up...

If this fight happens (it never will) Carl Froch KO Joe Calzaghe IMO
