On balance Floyd was guilty of plenty of those. Its a bit sad that this has become such a big deal as it does a massive disservice to both fighters. Both were fouling at times through the fight,Its boxing,It happens, and as a Hatton fan I dont have a problem with the fight.Floyd fought brilliantly and made some great adjustments against a fighter who just kept coming at him.Cortez had an absolute shocker IMO and its not the first time he has,but I have seen far worse.Below is a list fouls according to the WBC
1. Hitting below the belt (being a line encircling the body at the level of the navel)
2. Use of elbows, shoulders or forearms
3. Butting with the head
4. Hitting in the back of the head (rabbit punch)
5. Striking the kidneys or back6. Hitting with the antedorsum (the inside of the glove)
7. Hitting with the back of the hand
8. Striking with the knees, feet or any part of the legs
9. Holding the ring ropes to hit with the other hand
10. Hitting the opponent when part of his body is out of the ropes
11. Hitting an opponent when he is down or getting up from the canvas
12. Leaving the neutral corner and striking the opponent before the refereeīs instructions
13. Holding the opponent or maintaining a clinch
14. Striking after the refereeīs order to <> or < >
15. Stepping on the opponent
16. Holding the opponentīs head or body with one hand, while hitting with the other
17. Using the open hand to fix the face or rub the glove on the opponentīs face
18. Thumbing the opponentīs eyes
19. Striking after the bell
20. Crouching the body below the opponentīs belt defensively or to strike
21. Biting or spitting on the opponent
22. Using abusive or profane language23. Failing to obey the refereeīs command
24. Giving the back and walking, or running, away from the other boxer
25. Spitting the mouthpiece.
26. Cutting or mutilate the gloves (seconds)
25. Any rough tactics other than clean punches
Hatton was deducted a point for hitting Floyd at the back of his head when half of Floyd's body was out of the ring.Besides he swore at Cortez saying 'what the **** d you want me to do?'.As a professional he was not supposed to do that.(remember how calm Floyd was during the Zab Juda fracas, that's what professionals do).
Hatton is said to be a dirty fighter because of his holding.Cortez kept telling the guys to separate.Holding is an offence.Cortez penalised Hatton for genuine offences.Unfortunately Hatton is used to getting away with the unacceptable that is why he was sour about the whole thing.
Hatton wasnt happy, and a lot of the boxing media werent happy with cortez 'performance' ,but that doesnt take anything away from Floyd. The outcome wasnt in doubt.
The sad bi-product of Hatton's unhappiness is that a lot of Rickys fans picked up on this,as did Floyds and the whole thing has turned into mong fodder for the circle jerks of NSB who tend to raise this **** everytime a story, relevant or not, about either fighter surfaces in the press.I am looking forward to a great fight, and the only thing that worries me is the thought of an early cut ruining the fight, certainly not the ref.Comment
