I brought up Oscar because you brought up Bhop, RJJ, and Joe. That fight was a situation wherein Bhop should've ignored Oscar if he wanted to accomplish something truly great because to be completely honest, Oscar was the smaller man who just got a gift decision from another middleweight champ holding a minor belt. Instead Bhop chose to go on with the farce because of the lure of fame and fortune that Oscar's draw brought to the table.
How hard is it to point out that DESPITE Morales suffering a close loss to Barrera (not surprising since all their fights were competitive anyway) and to Raheem (wrong opponent and division to pick for a tuneup when you're not yet 100%), let's not forget that he beat Pacquiao in their first go around.
What's wrong with Pac trying to get back at a fighter who BEAT him. To put things in proper perspective Pac wasn't in a position to go after greatness at the time because he was brought back down to Earth by the loss to Erik even if you pointed out Erik lost to MAB and Raheem. Frankly, those losses makes the loss to Erik even look worse for Pac. A good way for Pac to get his career back on track was to try to beat the man who beat him. He can go after any other great if he was successful in that assignment but he had to take it one step at a time. The first step being to overcome his conqueror.
I think you were asking too much of Pacquiao back then (but I'm suspecting it's all on hindsight after what happened to their careers since), but beating Erik was his first concern because almost everyone was doubting how good he really was at that point. Also, you must remember that Morales was still being widely touted to outclass Pac before the rematch, only this time Pac had something special in store for him.
