Fair, but i dont understand how a new trainer is to make that much difference in terms getting Paulie to move his hands in fight where he should be moving them. You said yourself there is nothing your trainer can do to get the fighter to move his hands so i dont understand how changing trainer impacts on that side of things.

He knows what he didn't do he's admitted in a few interviews after the fight, he admitted he's gun shy come fight night. That sub-conciously he's worried about his right hand. It's obvious. And important that he needs to deal with this because it almost cost him a few times, and def. did him in against Hatton. It's not about blaming Buddy. Buddy could have been the best trainer in the world(he's not close) and if your fighter ain't gonna throw leather he's gonna lose. Paulie knows what he needs to do. Getting rid of McGirt was the smartest decision he's ever made in his career. Maybe get rid of DiBella next.Comment

Throwing in the towel was mos def the last straw. That was a tough decision and i can't say it was a terribly bad one but still. Ya DiBella isn't half bad. You're right with those 2 fights. From my understanding DiBella was severly neglecting Paulie for Berto, which makes sense completely, from a business stand point. And even tho Paulie had to wait for Hatton DiBella still got it done and Paulie didn't hold up his end.Comment

Well, the bottom line is Paulie needs to let his hands go, otherwise yes it won't make any difference. But trainers do more then provide a gameplan. A trainer is supposed to have a certain relationship with there fighter. A "intimate" one. Mentally its obvious Paulie is lacking, a trainer is an important tool to get a fighter prepared mentally as well as physically, its a very safe assumption that Buddy never did that. Im guessing there was a missing link there, one that Paulie needs. Buddy just wasn't fer Paulie??? It happens. We won't know if this will make a difference untill fight night. The work needs to start with Paulie HIMSELF. Bringing in a new trainer is kind of a no brainer when a fighter himself and others dont feel he's performing how he should. It might not be right or fair but its the way it goes.
IMO Paulie just froze and i think the occasion got to him.Comment

Some fighters change trainers like their underwear. These type of fighters never want to admit the problem is with their minds, and not the trainers.

In theory i guess that should be the case " trainer is an important tool to get a fighter prepared mentally as well as physically" but i dont think it reflects reallity, if a fighter wont let his hands go then i dont think the trainer should be held accountable. You should if you are not telling him to let his hands go, but if he just aint listening i dont see how you should be held accountable.

he won the first round, didnt he? then hatton caught him. fight over.Comment
