Calzaghe had a chance to silence critics in his last fight if he faced Pavlik, but he chose Roy Jones. Hopkins jumped at that chance and increased his resume. Then again he failed to redeem himself again from choosing Jones by retiring instead of fighting Dawson in Wales after his performance against Tarver.
I'm not really a Calzaghe fan but seriously!

Classy? to let the champion and a guy who was a far bigger star fight in his own country that isn't America?
Like Joe said he did in lacy and kessler who were the big undefeated guys who were sposed to box his ears off, he was 46-0 whats he sposed to do? keep fighting till he loses?Comment

You must hate paul williams then since calzaghe and him both throw over 1,000 punches and are entertaining. You must like the boring defensive styles that rarely throw a punch like Mayweather.Comment

Before Lacy the HBO were all like "Lacy will destroy that coward"
Calzaghe put on a clinic, so they were like "Well, he was a bum, but you can't beat Manfredo!" Joe Destroyed him. Then they were like "You coward, why wont you fight Kessler" so Joe ****ed his **** up, then it was all "why wont you fight American fighters scumbag! so Joe won a good fight with bernard (im a b-hop fan) and then it was "why don't you fight Jones, yeah! Jones by brutal KO, so joe schooled Jones, then it was "Chad Dawson, yeah fight him now or your ****!"
Seriously, has any other boxer been hounded by hbo like this, I just watched a bunch of Joes fights and i never noticed before but he did everything they asked for and they just refused to give him credit.
Kessler: I didn't see many fights with him but from what I saw of him I thought he was good (although unsure of how good); he was highly regarded, undefeated, a Champion, and although Joe had some trouble in certain points, he gathered himself and won that fight convincingly.
People that called for a Jones Jr. fight was ridiculous and I was with Joe on this with what he said in regards to a fight with Jones at this point in time which was basically, what's the point...Jones is shot.
Hopkins: I've always said it was Hopkins fault for not meeting Joe sooner but I also gave a bye to Hopkins because he wanted to set his legacy at MW and make his money but because of that he ended up meeting Calzaghe in his 40's. The best time for Hopkins would have been right after Tito while he still was in his prime despite being, I think 36?? Some would argue against that which I have no problem with since maybe he was declined a bit from his younger days.
I just thought after Tito, well, he did look good in his next fight, so after him, he started to slide faster down-hill which Robert Allen who he met for a third time even said B-Hop was past his best.
Why does Hopkins get a bye? Because I'm going to have to allow Joe a bye for not facing Jones Jr. in his prime one division up just like Hopkins shouldn't be expected to move up. I guess that is how it works. Although, for me, to be honest, I blame Hopkins for not moving up to face Joe sooner and Joe for not moving up to face Roy sooner...given both Hopkins and Joe eventually moved up anyway...and, Roy was a MW who moved his way up to LH so I don't see the big deal on why Joe couldn't have moved up one division to face a fighter that wasn't even a big LH.
He never moved up to face Roy in his prime. Can't hold it against him but it would have been nice for his legacy and we would have a better understanding of how "great" he truly was. Roy has been hit with this question as well.Comment

The numbers are around the same, but one actually hurts their opponent and throws real punches with intent.Comment
