Would Pac be considered a tuneup for Floyd if in the 2nd fight JMM had gotten the SD by a point or something like that? Lets be real here, both fights between Pac and JMM were very close neither could say they won it decisively but both could claim they won by a slight margin and it would be hard for anyone to dispute, but it happened to go Pac's way. If it didn't and JMM would be in a different position then he is now and maybe Floyd would be looking for a come back fight with Pac, so would this be a tuneup in your view? If so, then what would a theoretical fight with JMM be later down the road for Floyd be in a reality where he got the close decision over Pac? a super fight? a tuneup also, or what? What I am trying to get at here is a Floyd fight and probable win over either man should be considered equal because both Pac and JMM are relative equals. One fight with JMM cannot be a tuneup and another with Pac cannot be a super fight, this based on the relative equality between Pac and JMM proven over the course of 24 rounds.

The issue is the weight not the fighters.Would Pac be considered a tuneup for Floyd if in the 2nd fight JMM had gotten the SD by a point or something like that? At 147 Pac and JMM are just tuna for the shark.
At 140-143-144....Its a fair fight. -
Agree with this. Fact is Floyd would beat both JMM and Pacquiao at 147.
Cotto would be the only one that would give Floyd a fight at this point. Shane is old and Williams should stay at middleweight.Comment

I don't want to talk about weight, they are both not WW anyways. The incorrect perception of fans puts Pac on a Pedistal way above JMM when they are on an equal level.Comment

i still think marquez is a fool wanting to fight floyd....either at 140 or higher......marquez should have taken a fight against a bradley next imo....but i guess marquez is obsessive with trying to out do pac.Comment

I've been thinking about this...why the hell do people see Pacquiao so different from JMM? the fight was to close for that BS
If JMM is a tune-up or an easy fight then the same can be applied for Pacquiao.
And yes, styles make fights but in that case JMM's technical style is way better than Pacquiaos quick/agressiveness style for Floyd.
How do you knock someone down, what? 4 times? and get a draw?
and if one judge really did mess up on the scorecards, still if that judge got it right, the fight was way too close for someone who knocked down their opponent 4 times.
If any of those 2 are tune-ups I'd say it's Pacquiao, that's why i rather Mayweather fight Cotto after JMM because Pacquiao is way easier pickings than JMM.
Marquez is better than Pacquiao.Last edited by Kevin Jesus; 04-20-2009, 02:26 AM.Comment

To answer the question in the title.. No. Pacquaio is too dangerous for Floyd as a tune-up. Pac has fought at 147 before (albeit against a Drained DLH) so he knows how it feels to be at that weight in terms of power and speed. JMM hasn't fought at 147 so he'd be at a disadvantage. I'd also have to argue that JMM and Pac are only comparatively equal when fighting each other. When matched against different opponents things aren't as equal, for example Pac-Barrera and JMM-Barrera.Would Pac be considered a tuneup for Floyd if in the 2nd fight JMM had gotten the SD by a point or something like that? I don't think Marquez should be considered a tune up for Floyd but if he really is fighting Manny after him than that is most likely what he and his camp will see it as. It's not that Manny is much better than JMM ,just that it really sucks being P4P#2 when Floyd's next fight would be against the P4P#1.Comment
