Can a black fighter ever be the next "Golden Boy?"

First off, let me state. This is in no way, shape or form a racist thread. This is a serious question. Race is still very much an issue, especially in boxing, and I was wondering if a black fighter can be accepted and as popular like De La Hoya was in boxing. Also, shortly after Kelly Pavlik beat Taylor, there was an entire article written about him in ESPN the magazine. He had a huge picture of him in the front and about 4 pages in the magazine about him. He comes from a working class town, he's humble and he's white. They were pretty much preparing him to be the next face of boxing. I have a subscription to this magazine. I can't remember the last time that I saw that much publicity to any other boxer, and as we all know, there have been many fighters to accomplish more than what he has so far.

Yes, as long as he is an American. No foreigner can have the charisma of a true american.

The only fighter with a personna and the style to do it is David Haye. fighters like Chad Dawson while decent are wooden fighters.

Ray Leonard was known as a "Golden Boy" long before De La Hoya.

yes, but they must be able to talk and act simmilar to SRL. they have to be the boy next store type of person. if they have even the slightest bit of that (******) mentality, the american public will never accept them as the next golden boy. Shane mosley is a good person to base them off of, just more popular, an olympic gold medal woulnt not hurt. not to be racist im just stateing my opinion.

Thats funny as Tyson was marketed as ****** and Dela Hoya a rags to riches story.

You have either, a really bad memory or a terrible opinion of American people.
