WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto, during the official press conference to announce his June 13 bout with IBF champion Joshua Clottey, named Joe Santiago as the new trainer. Santiago has been a member of Cotto's team for some time as a nutritionist. Miguel fired his uncle Evangelista Cotto last Wednesday after the two had a heated argument that was followed by more than one physical confrontation between the two. Cotto faces Clottey on the eve of the Puerto Rican Day Parade at New York's Madison Square Garden. HBO will televise. [details]

I don't know how much experience his pick has in running a corner of a top boxer. Don't like the idea of having a yes man training him. You never stop learning in this sport and you have to be pushed, a fighter alone can't do this. Plus don't know if they can formulate a game plan. At this stage Cotto needs somebody that he respects and regards to take him to the next level. Not to change him but to improve in little ways what is already there
