Miguel Cotto Names Joe Santiago as The New Trainer

WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto, during the official press conference to announce his June 13 bout with IBF champion Joshua Clottey, named Joe Santiago as the new trainer. Santiago has been a member of Cotto's team for some time as a nutritionist. Miguel fired his uncle Evangelista Cotto last Wednesday after the two had a heated argument that was followed by more than one physical confrontation between the two. Cotto faces Clottey on the eve of the Puerto Rican Day Parade at New York's Madison Square Garden. HBO will televise. [details]

I actually think this could be a blessing in disguise...

A lot of trainers are training guys for upcoming fights, so the big name trainers just aren't available right now. So instead of committing to an outside trainer, he chose to stay in house, like he said; "for now".

To me that says that maybe after some other trainers are done with their obligations they'll go down to Florida and help Cotto out for the last 4 weeks of his camp or something.

Sounds reasonable. **** huntin for a big name trainer, just grab somebody you know and can trust. Now it's time to get focused back on the fight for him. I still think Clottey wins, but I'm glad the whole trainer issue seems over and won't affect Cotto in the fight.

A nutritionist? Well if he losses to Clottey he already has a good excuse.
