It would be. I mean who would they fight? Other than the klitschkos, valuev and mccline (who is old now) there isnt anyone else that should naturally be above say 240.
If people are complaining about lack of competition in the heavy division now, when you split it into 2 it will get even worse.
Plus if you are still going to have a division with no upper weight limit (superheavy) what is to keep guys like Peter and Areola from saying **** it Ill just fight in the super division and stay fat.Comment

Another Division is what boxing simply does not need..
I do however agree that something has to be done about 20-50 LBs of a fighters weight being Blubber...
Putting a cap would solve a lot of that.. but it would still present a problem for a legitimate 300LB man like Valuev who is not a fat slob..
Do you say to a 300lb man who is decently fit that he can't fight because he is too big???Comment

I made a thread about this a few weeks back. People dont understand how a super HW division would fix the HW up. Make their asss get in shape or stay in shape and not force a guy to add so much weight just too get close to his natural opponeent. Its sick these beast like Nicolay Valuev freak show can get a belt and sit on it and the dude sucks. Just a real good small heavyweight looks bad fighting this giant. I hate it we need a SHW divisionComment

I think putting a SHW division in is a great idea. It would be the only case where I support another weight division. The problem is with big tall strong heavyweights like Lennox, Wlad, and Vitali, cruiserweight type fighters add unnecessary pounds to hang with the big boys. Creating a SHW division with the cut off at around 225 would probably create a lot more good fights between guys in between cruiserweight and the big heavyweights.
I cosign completely.
My idea would be to create the SHW with the thought in mind of the Mike Tyson's of the world. The HW that is 5'11 - 6'2 weighs in at 200 - 225 lbs with electricity running through his veins and thunder popping out of both of his fists. Problem is this guy no longer exists because we have the Chris Arreolas and the 7 foot grizzly bears fighting in the ring. Yes occasionally you have the Lennox Lewis of the world. The 6'5 250 lbs fighter who is in shape and is just naturally bigger and weighs more. Lennox early on in his carreer weighed in at 225-230 he only went above 240 after his fight with McCall. Even then he weighed around or about 240 for most of his fights from 1995 on. Wvlad keeps him self at or about 235lbs. Hs older brotehr Vitali early on weighed in around 235 and even most recently he came in at 245-250. I do not think it is too much to ask any of these HW to come in weighing under 245lbs. I do not see Vitali or Wlad having an issue making 245lbs. Lennox iwhen he was fighitng usually hovered at about that fight night. Name me one other HW over 245lbs that si worth mentioning here.
There is no way Sam Peter should be coming in at 265 to fight Eddie Chambers. Guys like McCline and Michael Grant are 6'7 if they can get to 250 then muy bien if not I am sorry either fight in SHW or loose some weight.I agree the current situation in the HW may force some CW who in the past may have made the move to HW to stay down at CW because they arent going to match up too well with the GIANTS in the division. Flip side is it may cause guys like Tyson later in his carreer to add extra pounds to compete with the larger guys like Lewis and the Klitty's. You have guys adding pounds to chase $$$ why not have guy shaving pounds to chase $$$$???

All it would do is sweep the problem under the carpet. What the division needs is a good kick in the ass. Heavyweights should undergo fitness tests before fights. If they know it will put their career at risk they will take it seriously. No doubt about it.Comment

I'm not sure whether I'd support one now. On the one hand I kinda think an in fight weight difference of more than 10 lbs is undermining the point of weight classes, be it at any weight.
On the other hand more weight on some of the guys doesn't always help them. So I'm caught really.Comment
