just one question: why exactly would a SHW division cause fatties like arreola to train? Why wouldn't they just maintain their normal weight and just be new champions of teh SHW division?

The last thing Boxing needs is another division with 4 more champions. Besides if they did have a super-heavy division who would wanna see 270lb fatties fight?

Dude you take away these fattys put a cap on the division at a reasonable weight say 245. Take a look at the division and tell me how many guys you see over 240 pounds that you would say are in shape? imagine Sam Peter 10 pounds lighter...He is a wrecking ball but he lacks stamina and movement because he is too heavy. the guy has brut strength and if he was in better shape say 235 - 240 pounds he might actually be more then a one punch KO artist. Look at Arreola I hate to be singling him out but he is the most recent HW I have seen fight. he has flabby **** for gods sakes. he looks like a guest on the Jerry Springer show not a contender for the HW crown.

The 7 foot Russian should be a side show at the cirus he should not be in the ring fighting Monte Barret. my point if Crusier Wieght Champion does not have the same ring to it as Heavy Wieght Champion of the world. There is no reason Danny Williams should be 270 pounds fighting....Kirk Johnson came in against Vitali at 260 why when he had been fighting at 230-235 for most of his career. I just think it would be to force these men into gettign into shape and giving the public a fair shake. Every other weight class has a cap of some kind and it makes for better fights. Fighters in shape who are ready to throw down and not have a hug fest.....Lefty

I think putting a SHW division in is a great idea. It would be the only case where I support another weight division. The problem is with big tall strong heavyweights like Lennox, Wlad, and Vitali, cruiserweight type fighters add unnecessary pounds to hang with the big boys. Creating a SHW division with the cut off at around 225 would probably create a lot more good fights between guys in between cruiserweight and the big heavyweights.

          I cosign completely.

I say 225 is good. You want the superheavyweight title to be the grand prize I would imagine.

To avoid being unfair to the taller guys who are in shape at 250 why not make them come in under a certain bodyfat %

SHW would just be boring as hell. No desire for that imo.

There was never a super heavy weight division, check your source (wikipedia? LOL). Forget the whole new division and just put a cap on the heavyweight division to begin with, therefore reducing the amount of damn fat in the division, forcing fighters to actually be a real athlete and work hard instead of run a few miles and call it a work out.

If I wanted to see s fight like that I would go down to my local bar/pub and stay there past 2am on a Friday night.

I now find myself thinking to when I see guys like Chris Arreola " Wow I could take that guy. he looks like the prick who ordered the entire dollar menu at Mickey D's or the scumbag who grabbed the last 6 pack of Corona's at the 7 Eleven... I could just move around for about 30 to 40 seconds and wait for the dinner bell to ring . He will snap his head looking for that Double Quarter Pounder and I can counter him with a 20 piece McNuggets.

Why is it illegal and dangerous to out weight your opponent in every other weight calss but when it comes to HW we can have a 215 lb Holyfield fighting a 7 foot long hair backed gorrilla that weighs over 300 lbs?

He will probably be playing some toehr sport or fighting at Cruise Weight and go unknown because he will be in teh shadow of some special olympics fat monger that idea of training is eating Wendy three times daily and washing it down with a slurpee.....

One of the other guys who came in is right, though. Making a division above heavy just doesn't work. You made the point that part of the magic of the heavies has always been knowing that the baddest guy there is the baddest man on the planet. Adding a division above just takes away from that, even if the guys in that division are only slobs or circus freaks. Heavies is the heavies.

These are closer to it. There needs to be an effort to make sure the division is populated by athletes and not slobs. Whip the fatties into shape and you whip the division into better shape. Enforcing some standards should be the priority.
