Muhammad Ali Skills Overrated...

He wasn't wrong. Ali was a technically flawed fighter. He fought with his hands at his sides, he leaned back from punches, he telegraphed his uppercuts by dropping his hands too low before throwing them, he took a lot of punches to the chin and head. The fact that he had a great chin was both a blessing and a burden. Ali is an enigma. He came along at a time when boxing was in a slump, and television was killing the small boxing clubs and live venues. Networks needed a fresh face with charisma, someone who could get people to tune in, even if they hated him. No one wanted Liston as champion, he was forced to take dives to make way for the man who could get ratings. His best win was Foreman, who basically defeated himself in that fight. He had a several decisions that were gifted to him because of his name. He was an important figure in boxing and resurrected the sport as it transitioned from live venues to television, but Holmes is right, his basic skills were overrated, but he made up for it with superior reflexes, speed, a great chin, and often having a distinct size advantage. He also had the media in his corner for his post-comeback career.Comment

From a solely skill standpoint, I see his point.
But Ali had skills, and one in a billion athletic ability and talent. Add to that one of the all time chins, and a massive heart and desire to win. That made him the greatest heavyweight of all time.
Realistically that’s not even debatable.Comment

Many fighters from the years i named never would have to have their fighters fight from the ropes like ali did they wouldnt cause the tech had became better in punch tech
Ali never would had have to use it for george a trash tech fighter who was slow easy to read and basic any trainer from the years I seen knew how to easily outbox him or to just overwhelm himLast edited by Ascended; 10-05-2022, 10:44 AM.Comment

No its debatable cause since he wasnt that tech means he wasnt as skilled as people in 80s-now you need to stop overrating
