Real answer: 31 year-old Eubank had twice as much experience as young Calzaghe. It was a major step up for JC and is one of his best wins. Chris Eubank went on to fight at Cruiserweight and, as far as I'm concerned, won the first fight. The Thompson rematch was stopped because of cuts. Although Eubank was past his best, he was dangerous and gave the up-and-coming Calzaghe hell for 12 rounds. To date, this was ol' Slappy's toughest test.
Real answer:
Didn't even come close to losing. Sheika was stopped by the ref in the 5th round on cuts and was getting beaten up.
Real answer: Reid was a good fighter. I watched this fight as a neutral boxing fan of both when it was aired live. Joe deserved to win, I had it 7-5, plus Reid had a point taken off. Reid (who at first said himself he thought he lost the fight) was instantly offered a rematch. The rematch was refused. Calzaghe was also fighting an injury against Reid, bear in mind.
Richie Woodhall was a solid but unspectacular former champ, also a very good friend of Calzaghe's. Was knocked out in the 10th.
Real answer: Giant German Mario Veit was a mandatory challenger who Calzaghe blew away in one round. Fought twice because he was a mandatory again.
Real answer: Do I even need to go here? Lacy was the man to beat at 168, it doesn't matter who tries to spin this and say he was ****, because we all know the truth. Lacy was a better fighter before Calzaghe got to him, and he was knocking everyone the **** out. 9 out of 10 people -- including 'expert' boxing writers -- were convinced Joe would be knocked out, some as early as the 2nd round.
Real answer: Kessler is a damn good boxer. Anyone who can't see this is either ******, blind, or both. Double world champion, 39-0. Very nice win.
Real answer: "Meh"? Bika gives anyone he fights a bad night. Used every dirty trick in the book to try and get a win over Calzaghe but ended up losing a wide UD.
Real answer: Ugly performance from both fighters. Joe did what he needed to do in order to win, no matter how ****ty it looked. The key to winnig was activity. People **** on about age, seemingly ignoring the fact that Calzaghe was 36 and well past his prime himself. Hopkins is a freak of nature who defies age, as he continues to prove by soundly beating Kelly Pavlik. He was heavily favored to beat Adamek at Cruiserweight until the fight fell through due to Hopkins' low-ball offer. Calzaghe-Hopkins was a close fight, but Hopkins didn't do nearly enough to deserve a win. This is coming from fan of Hopkins since 1997 (Johnson fight).
Real answer: LOL. Maybe Jones should have taken up the offers to fight Joe as far back as 2000. If he had, he might not have a L on his record right now. Even Hopkins predicted Jones would beat Calzaghe. Roy can currently be found ****ting on his own legacy by fighting ex-Calzaghe victims.
Real answer: People like you are the true ****stain on boxing. No offense.
