How can anyone dislike Paul Williams?

I just watched his Greatest Hits on HBO on Demand and the guy is obviously exciting. He throws a zillion punches, and has been showing something new and exciting in every fight in his last few.

He beats an undefeated power puncher in Matthysse, getting his first big showcase on HBO.

He beats Sharmba Mitchell, really showing that he knows how to put punches in effective combination, and not just throwing in bunches wildly.

He beats Margarito, where he takes his first step up, and shows a terrific chin.

    He loses to Quintana.

He beats Quitnana in a rematch where he shows insane power for the first time.

He moves up to 160 and shows that he has power there in a first round KO against a guy who has one previous loss, and that is to Andre Ward... the worst criticism you can give to Ande Kolle is untested.

He drops down to 154 and shows that he has an absolutely murderous body attack.

In addition, he is easily one of the most gracious people in the sport in his post-fight interviews. I was really impressed by what he had to say after the Verno Phillips fight, and even more impressed by his lack of excuses in the Quintana fight. All he said was, I never got into my rhythm, and I'm sure he knew damn well that Quintana's movement and what not was at the very least, a partial cause of that.

Finally, I know a lot of people are tired of hearing this ducking thing that Williams fans are doing, but... I have never heard Williams complain about being ducked. The closest thing to it was when Kellerman asked him point blank about fighting some of the big names, and he was just like, "I mean, we've talked to a lot of them, they don't want to fight", and left it at that.

My favorite boxer in the world is probably going to get curbstomped by him this weekend, and if anyone is going to end Wright's career, and use his name to propel himself into further prominence, I can't think of anyone else I would rather do it than Paul Williams, because he is a class act, and is willing to do whatever he needs to in an effort to further himself in the sport.

Seriously, what is your criticism of him if you don't like him? I'm kind of curious to know.

Quick question, does he ever use his reach advantage?
I've only seen 2 of his fights, and he fought on the inside the vast majority of the time. Is this because he cant use his reach to keep his opponent away or does he choose to fight like that for some reason? Or did I just not watch the right fights. Pretty sure Philips was one of them (his last fight?), cant remember who the other was.

Oh, and my main/only dislike of him is that he reminds me of people in Oxfam commercials. He seriously cannot be healthy being that skinny. Eat ffs!

What sane welterweight would want to fight a guy who is really like 6'3/6'4 and has a reach of 83. Not all fighters are as elusive as Quintana. Williams has his flaws but Quintana has his number even if he was laid out on the rematch against williams. Theirs no denying boxers who move alot and create angles for Williams will always give him problems because of his long reach.

With Williams advantages like his reach, you have to fight very intelligently against him to beat him.

I like Paul Williams for many of the reasons you said above.

Some of his fans do piss me off though.

He used his reach in the Margarito fight pretty well early...

He definitely kept Phillips at bay with his reach.

He also used it well against Matthysse.

To be honest, he should use it more, but it's not terrible that he doesn't, because his chin is made of 100% iron, and his extremely high workrate can take him places, even fighting his opponents fight, because he is going to land a lot if he is throwing that much.

I dont dislike him, but I'll be honest, I dont find him exciting to watch. It's just like Juan Diaz in most fights. Sure he throws alot of punches, but not usually with bad intentions.

He can't always use it because fighters like Quintana show him odd movements which make it hard to throw a landing jab. Jabs do waste energy, and the more jabs he throws and misses with, the more countering opportunities he gives to his opponents. Exactly why I think Wright will beat him, wrights no idiot.

I actually kind of like watching both, although I like the rangy volume punching of Williams better than the inside volume punching of Diaz.

It's pretty clear that I like range fighting much more than inside fighting I think... I mean, **** I am almost alone in thinking that Corrales-Castillo I was not the best ever.

I hope you are right, but... Wright's legs suck these days.

He's going to have a hard time moving away from a tornado of punches and keeping the energy level he needs to outwork Williams to a decision (because he damn sure is not going to knock him out) at his age.

I just have a really hard time seeing Wright winning this.
