Hopkins/Calzaghe; Negative/Positive Effects?

As an after though of the Hopkins SD lose to Calzaghe, the fight really had no obvious negative effects for Hopkins. At this point he would still be the most notable LHW around and the most lucrative option for any fighter around that weight class. Because the fight was so close and uneventful, many don't really view it as a legit loss, so his legacy has really not been effected at all by it. Most who follow boxing religiously as far as ATG status regard Hopkins more highly than Calzaghe, mainly due to events before the fight though. So I ask was the fight a waste of time for both men?
Were there any negative effects on Hopkins to this date as a result of the SD loss?
Did Calzaghe really gain much from the fight?Comment

I've never liked Joe. I've never liked his attitude or his style of fighting.
He gave B-Hop a pretty damn tough fight with his workrate, and that earned my respect.
It's a shame that others can't learn the same respect.
It's not like you have to like the guy.Comment

I don't place much value on those things, wins on someones record don't mean much if they have little value in the court of public opinion. That is what a reputation is based on public opinion of a fighter, and that is what this thread is about.Comment

Bernard Hopkins made it boring with all the grapping, faking a low blow in the eleven that would have been a body punch knockout. You can see Hopkins bend over in the fight and just come foward to grap Calzaghe to avoid getting punish.
Hopkins made that fight boring unlike when Calzagher fought Roy Jones. Roy jones made it a better fight, because he wasn't grapping Calzaghe. Had Hopkins not been grapping all the time Calzaghe would've dominated Hopkins just like he did to Roy.Comment

Did you expect him to just stand there and let Joe tee off on him, while he put on earmuffs like Roy did all night?
Bernard is much smarter than that. And a lot craftier than Roy.Comment

I get accused of being Anti British for saying it like how it is. Calzaghe stole a SD against a 43 year old. FACT.
As for Anti-British.
I'm from Britain, but unlike half the uneducated idiots here, i dont look at race or background, it's pathetic and sad.
Joe ended up worse after this bout. Was obvious Hopkins would own Calzaghe Prime v Prime. He could have made the move to the states years ago to fact these guys Prime v Prime. Why wait till Hopkins and RJJ are at the combined age of 83?
Pathetic, but nowhere near half as bad as his sad fans.Comment
