Because the fight was so close and uneventful, many don't really view it as a legit loss, so his legacy has really not been effected at all by it. Most who follow boxing religiously as far as ATG status regard Hopkins more highly than Calzaghe, mainly due to events before the fight though. So I ask was the fight a waste of time for both men? Were there any negative effects on Hopkins to this date as a result of the SD loss? Did Calzaghe really gain much from the fight?
Yeah Calzaghe proved a white boy could beat Popkins. As a white boy Id say thats pretty positive.

To this day, RJ remains the only guy to truly defeat him.
If anything all Calzaghe gained was noteriety somewhere other than western Europe. Over all a waste of time for both men because Calzaghe could have fought someone else and possibly had a dominant win and a more entertaining fight in the process.

Bernard Hopkins was, what, 43yrs old? He was in a no-lose situation going in, especially coming off his worst performance in years. That he arguably won the fight is an even bigger bonus.
Was a very very good part of the fight.

That's true but he must have had some grip on reality because if he really thought it was 1996 he wouldn't go near Jones. He wouldn't even dare watch him on TV.

the negative was Hopkins holding all fight, Hopkins faking low-blows, Dreadful refereeing and that dumb ***** who scored it Hopkins.

If Hopkins was not allowed to hold he doesnt see the final bell.
