    My favorite Erik Morales moment

I've seen a small handful of threads in the last few months of people talking about how Morales went southpaw on Manny in the 12th round of their first fight.

To many, that's their favorite Morales moment. At least that's what I've gathered from reading those threads. The balls he displayed in doing that seemed to win a lot of people over, myself included.

But my favorite Morales moment never even occured during a fight.

It was in the post fight interview after the first match with Pacquiao, when Merchant asked Erik about going southpaw in the 12th. And when Merchant asks Erik why he did it, Erik just cracked a sly smile, extended his arm, put his hand on Larry Merchant's shoulder, looked him in the eyes and said.....

    Did you like that?
You could tell just by watching that Morales was very sincere there with Merchant. As if his only concern was just making the fans happy.

Hands down, my favorite moment from "El Terrible".

Morales was awesome. It was the last good performance he pulled off even though he was past it. Morales will be missed.

I was at that fight and next to Marquez/Vazquez III that was the greatest fight I have ever seen. But, that fight took alot out of Morales, and he just never fully recovered.

        Agreed.

I was thinking back on certain "favorite" moments in boxing for myself, over the last 10 years or so.

And that was one of the ones that I thought of that actually made me crack a smile as I thought of it.

So I figured I'd post about it.

That **** was crazy. I thought he was gonna get KTFO when he did that. Ballsy ****. I luv his fight wit Jesus Chavez. Not his best fight, but he stood in and waged war wit a 1 handed guy he coulda owned by boxin from range. That was my favorite EM fight beyond the 1st Pac/MAB fights.

Morales was a rare fighter, who had one hell of a career. best out of the lower weight Fab 4 with Barrera, Pacquiao and Marquez

Marquez is great, but he has nothing on Morales. Morales outdid him at his own game, and in the last great performance of his career.

although Morales probably should have deserved the nod in the David Diaz fight, not that it matters much.

I thought Erik was jobbed in the Diaz fight as well.

                I had him winning.

Diaz is garbage. So much so that even a mummified, 107 year old version of "El Terrible" whipped his ass.

The 1st fight was a great fight but is not my favorite cuz Pac lost. But i liked it when Merchant came to him and EM said "did you like that" in Spanish.

It would've been more awesome if he asked Larry that in the 2nd and 3rd fights. j/k
