The very word slave comes from the word SLAV (one of the white races).

While lots of Slavic people did experience serdom in large empires such as the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, Austria-Hungary, Tsarist Russian etc claiming that the word Slave is derived from Slav (althought i have heard that alot, it's not an uncommon claim) i think it's incorrect

this is a very simple explanation and you can go deeper than this but some basic etymology

SLOVO means WORD in every Slavic language, common cuz of all having been derived from the Proto-Slavic language - so it would be a way to differentiate US (Slavic speaker) from THEM (non Slavic speaker who speak gibberish) another example is that the Russian term for Germans is Mute, as in, these people are too dumb to speak like normal people (us)

another parrallel is the word SLAVA meaning Glory which is common in Slavic languages

Slovo and/or Slava are probably the two most logical

So while some claim the english word Slav is derived from Slave due to serdom being common in Eastern Europe i personally doubt it
