both of them
Who would be more competitive against Floyd Mayweather...Pacquaio or Cotto?

Great posts from all most everybody.
I think Cotto will give FLoyd the more problems, do to Cottos selective pressure, body punching and timming(WHo is best in the sport right now).Plus Cottos size.
Pacquiao will give FLoyd problems, till FLoyd, adjusts. Pacquiao is faster than FLoyd, but Floyd have great timming. So hell counterpunch Pacquiao easy.
Im not saying Pac cant beat him, but it will be harder for him, than for Cotto tobeat Mayweather.
PS. Lol at araines, sayiing Pac beats Cotto, let alone easy!!!!Comment

I know this sounds a bit crazy, but I think Pacquiao's southpaw "quick to the punch" style could give Floyd a lot more problems then say...Antonio Margarito.
Don't get me wrong, I obviously understand a person's aspect on why Margarito could beat Floyd. Margarito is strong, amazing chin, amazing stamina, would walk him down, etc etc. However I think Mayweather could solve that puzzle a lot easier then he could Pacquiao. With Margarito, Floyd could potshot and Margarito is slow to catch up to Floyd. Margarito has **** defense and Floyd could beat him.
However, I don't see that case happening with Pacquiao. Pacquiao is fast, has very good upperbody movement, and his defense has increased a lot. Pacquiao's straight left and combinations could land more on Floyd, at least for the opening rounds. Pacquiao would force Floyd to throw combinations to keep him off rather then just pot-shotting. Mayweather would have to adjust to get used to Pacquiao's speed and southpaw style. He couldn't do the same things over and over.
I think Mayweather would beat Pacquiao, but I wouldn't be surprised if Pacquiao gives him the toughest fight he's had since Jose Luis Castillo. I mean Floyd could counter Pacquiao like Marquez did in their second fight, but Marquez was still forced to throw combinations to keep Pacquiao off of him.
Even if Pacquiao doesn't give Floyd much trouble, I think it would be a better fight then Margarito-Mayweather would.Last edited by warp1432; 04-05-2009, 06:21 PM.Comment

Mayweather beats them both. Pacquiao may be faster than Floyd but not by much and that would be his only advantage. Cotto is bigger and more powerful, but Mayweather would outbox him to a UD. I would say though that Pacquiao would probably be the more competitive out of the two due to his speed allowing him to land on Mayweather more than Cotto would.Comment

I know I made a thread saying "Which win should Floyd get more credit for, Cotto or Pacman?" and to my surprise alot of people said Cotto. It was weird hearing that because Cotto isn't nearly as accomplished as Pacquaio. It seems to me that Floyd would get more credit beating Cotto because of the simple fact that Cotto is bigger? and I've said it before Mayweather and Pac are closer in size then Mayweather and Cotto but here is my question...
Who would put up a better challenge against Floyd Mayweather Cotto or Pacquaio? Miguel Cotto's problem is his stamina and the uppercut is his weakness (Which wouldn't matter because Floyd rarely throws em) Cotto is a really good brawler but I'll say Floyd has seen better (JLC) and Cotto can box (Which will be suicide against Floyd)
Now Pacquaio's problem is more to do with his balance and his right hook es busura (No offense). His balance is a major problem, if it wasn't we wouldn't be debating as to who won between JMM and Pacquaio 1st and 2nd fight (Which in my opinion, Pac lost both fights) Pacquaio would always get off balance and JMM would always capitalize in those situations. Paquaio doesn't have that many weaknesses
Now, I'll talk about how good they are. Cotto has good speed and great timing to go with it. He pretty much has the best body attack in boxing right now but really...and I'm being honest, I don't see him giving Floyd that much problems. His boxing abilities aren't gonna help him and he'll have to resort to brawling (Something Floyd has seen way too many times before) I have a feeling Floyd would easily throw him off his game and yes, I'm talking about elbows and forearms in his face
Pacquaio is considered to be faster then Floyd (Which I disagree) and has really good workrate and unlike Cotto, Pacquaio isn't gonna get tired. Plus Pacquaio is a south paw...I really don't know how Mayweather will face the guy. Mayweather has never faced an opponent like Pac, the only fighter that comes close is Zab Judah and we all know Zab Judah is NOTHING like Pac. Pacquaio has really good footwork and provides angles. Reason why I believe Pacquaio would put up a better challenge
So I ask, who would put up a better challenge against Floyd Mayweather Cotto or Pacquaio? Please discuss
At 140 Pacquiao at 147 Cotto.
At welterweight ....im really undecided until i see them fight again but im leaning towards Cotto, Its not only the size factor but the ability to try box, he has been succesfull against fast fighters before(Shane,Zab) but the Floyd's defensive skills will be new.
Pac on the other hand makes more sense financially and Historically imo.A disciplined Pac will probably lose by a decision a careless PAC will be KD atleast......I think floyd wins both fight but an upset happening has a bigger chance happening than ever before.Comment

Pac has speed on Floyd and is also southpaw, but we've seen Floyd deal with speedy boxers and southpaws alike. Cotto has a size and strength advantage but that's about it. Neither can outbox Floyd, neither can outlast Floyd, both can pressure him, but pressuring Floyd is not the way to beat him (see Castillo x2, Corrales, Hatton, Baldomir, etc.). Both have questionable defense as well, look for Floyd to fight in spurts and counter them off the ropes all night to a UD or possibly a late stoppage.Comment

Let's wait and see if Floyd comes back, and if he does, in what condition.
Once a fighter gets to a certain point in his life, he is more susceptible to losing because of his decline.
I thought before Mayweather left he was more at risk to lose at that point than ever before based on what he was saying as well as his performance inside the ring.Comment
