Cotto, Pacquiao has been hit and hurt by smaller guys than Floyd that are very smart counter punchers. A counter puncher with a good chin and a better defense than Marquez will beat Pacquiao soundly.
Mayweather fits that mould, on the other hand Cotto has usually been only troubled by guys who can come forward and exchange. He had major chin problems at 140 but surprisingly almost none at 147 (he went down willingly) Mayweather doesn't fit that mould. Cotto is a great body puncher and provides MORE angles than Pacquiao.
Pacquiao offers straight punchers almost all the time, sometimes they are kind of looping punches but much closer to straight ones apart from his uppercut. Cotto goes for all types of punches hooks, straights, uppercuts to head and body, left hook to the body.
Cotto offers the bigger threat AND he has a size advantage over Pacquiao and Mayweather.
We all know Pacquiao main weapon is the straight left, Floyd will take it away and Pacquiao will be left with little (as much as I like the guy) I honestly think Pacquiao-mayweather would be a blowout. Cotto is the guy I give the best chance to beat Mayweather right now from 140-154Comment

People are underestimating Pac's size for a fight with Floyd. History's shown the smaller fighter can give a bigger fighter a **** load of problems with speed and movement around the ring. Floyd doesn't ever fight as if he's the bigger fighter (even though he sometimes is). People over-look the notion that Floyd can get pecked at all night and not be able to catch Pac. Floyd doesn't have to be KO'd to lose, it's not out of the question for Pac to just be too active. Anything can happen.Last edited by RL_GMA; 04-05-2009, 04:33 PM.Comment

Combine that with Pac being wobbled by Marquez and I see a Mayweather TKO. Cotto on the other hand fits the blueprint for the only guy that has ever come close to beating Mayweather in Castillo. Cotto will target both head and body over and over but he won't be putting relentless pressure like Hatton made the mistake of doing. He'll do what Castillo did and fight Mayweather at mid range stepping in ****ing to the body and head and getting out again making sure Mayweather cannot fight in the pocket and it eliminates his counter punching.
Mayweather to beat Cotto would have to move forward IMO it work against Castillo the 2nd time and argueable the first time but against the bigger Cotto it would be a different story. I'm not sure Cotto would win but he'd give Mayweather his hardest fight now.Comment

Interseting arguments on both sides.
I favoured Pac because of his speed and work rate. His straight fast combos and in and out footwork could win a good number of rounds.
JMM was aggressive and also very busy, unlike Floyd.
Cotto is a little static compared to Pac. I think too easy for Floyd to counter and out manouvre.
Difficult choice.Comment
