Bernard Hopkins ready to call it Quits: Hopkins Speaks

By John Benz, Doghouse Boxing (April 4, 2009)
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It looks like Bernard Hopkins might be ready to call it quits from the ring. Hopkins who will debut tonight as a ringside analyst for Golden Boy's "Lightweight Lightning" show (HBO PPV, 9 p.m.) in Austin, Texas, was recently quoted by Chris Mannix for CNN's Sports Illustrated in regards to his future inside the ring.

Hopkins tells the publication that there is a very good chance that we will not see him inside the ring again. "There is a great chance you won't see me fight again," stated Hopkins.

Hopkins went on to add: "That's not bad. You got to see one of the greatest fights of my career (vs Pavlik). Every football player who has won rings will say it's great to win one on the way out."

He's done all he can.. fought all the big fights that were there. Just wished he and toney woulda faced off about 6 years ago.. other than that, nice to see him leave on a high note..

    BTW how is his commentating?

I would still like to see him fight one more time, although the Pavlik win is great way to leave the sport. I wouldn't begrudge him if he chooses to go out on top, he deserves it, he's had a great career.

If he does, he deserves it. I really wanted to see him punk Dawson before he walked tho. The Adamek fight sounded good too. oh well. If he can't get the deal he wants, may he retire in peace.

I agree, he's done everything to do. He has a great future outside the ring now...and I think we can be at peace with him retiring.

Well, I was hoping for the Adamek fight to pop off (hence the sig), but if he walks away there's nothing left for him to prove really. He's made his money, he's still promoting, commentating, and I don't see what else he can do without one of the bigger fights.

He did very well as a commentator last night.
He's much more entertaining outside the ring than he is in it.

He made his name and has nothing to prove in the ring anymore.

                  At 44, he should retire.

Probably the best boxer p4p in this Era imo.

He has done it all. Faced everyone they put in front of him. In my opinion he is the most accomplished fighter right now. He can retire but I've learn to never believe B-Hop when he says that
