If the footwork was enough he wouldn't have held. Joe's great at closing range on runners. So Hopkins tried to siplay his running abilities and since he couldn't run he held and claimed low blows.

But is he good at overwhelming counter's? Hopkins still needed to use dirty tactics because that looked (and personally is imo) Calzaghe's weakness. Along with the right hand counter.
