people act like it was a one sided ass kicking until the 12th round where Chavez got 'lucky'. this is bull****.
Meldrick was throwing so many punches and so quickly that people seem to have missed the fact that Chavez was landing clean, hard shots to the body and head in those exchanges. This damage really started showing up around round 9, which means this damage had built up during the fight.
I didnt have him winning on the scorecard, but I had him winning rounds 2, 9, 10, 11, and 12. In other words, he was one point behind.
yall need to stop judging a fight based on the number of punches landed/thrown, and learn how to judge correctly. it matters much more how much damage the punches do, more than how many of them land.
and Ill also throw in there that had this been a a 15 round fight(which it would have been two years before) that the only controversial thing about this fight would be the number of low blows Taylor was able to land without getting a serious warning.
Coming into the later rounds, Taylor was bleeding from the mouth, his entire face was swollen, the bones around his eye socket had been broken, he had swallowed a considerable amount of his own blood
Dr. Flip Homansky, who examined Taylor following the fight and immediately sent him to the hospital, summarized his injuries by saying "Meldrick suffered a facial fracture, he was urinating pure blood, his face was grotesquely swollen... this was a kid who was truly beaten up to the face, the body, and the brain
