well, its MUCH easier to do it nowadays than it was in the same day weigh ins. thats what I meant.Idk man, As a boxer and seeing other boxers and pro boxers, I just really strongly disagree with going up and down in weight easily and a natural 160 pounder making 135. Don;t get me wrong, I see your point, It's just the easy and the natural 160 pounder making 135 just seems a little bit farfetched in my book. No hard feelings. I know what your point is though tiger.
perhaps I should have have used better wording...but back in those older days, it was near impossible for a fighter to cut that much weight and still be in fighting shape on that same day. today's fighters can pull it off and still be quite healthy, even though the process of making weight is very tough.
so they would be able to fight at lower weight classes than they should be at, and wouldnt have nearly as much trouble in moving up in weight, since they weigh that much(or even more) naturally.
sorry for the misunderstanding.Comment

Which is why no fighter back then has done it.Its quite an accomplishment.... But much like price of bread.. The cost today is very inflated..
Back when the multi weight champ standard was established
there were only 8 weight classes
they were known as
* Flyweight (Maximum 112 pounds)
* Bantamweight (118)
* Featherweight (126)
* Lightweight (135)
* Welterweight (147)
* Middleweight (160)
* Light Heavyweight (175)
* Heavyweight (unlimited)
The distances between weights meant if you could keep moving up and winning.. That it really was a feat to behold..
Add in the "1 belt" per division , a Multi division Champ was Totally something to boast about..
Now with 4 belts qualifying as "Champs" and the split divisions.. the odds of being a Multi weight champ have increased 1200% making it much less an accomplishment..
Still something to be proud of when fishing for accolades.. But not an instant criterion for ATG status.. like it was back in the day..Comment

Leonard, Hearns, Oscar and Floyd.
There's only 4 that I can think of. And the guys Floyd beat in his 4th and 5th weight class were a **** load better than Hearn's and Leonard's opposition in their 4th & 5th weight class.Last edited by deliveryman; 03-30-2009, 11:32 PM.Comment
