    5 Divsion Champ..

    Its quite an accomplishment.... But much like price of bread.. The cost today is very inflated..

    Back when the multi weight champ standard was established
    there were only 8 weight classes
    they were known as

    * Flyweight (Maximum 112 pounds)
    * Bantamweight (118)
    * Featherweight (126)
    * Lightweight (135)
    * Welterweight (147)
    * Middleweight (160)
    * Light Heavyweight (175)
    * Heavyweight (unlimited)

    The distances between weights meant if you could keep moving up and winning.. That it really was a feat to behold..

    Add in the "1 belt" per division , a Multi division Champ was Totally something to boast about..

    Now with 4 belts qualifying as "Champs" and the split divisions.. the odds of being a Multi weight champ have increased 1200% making it much less an accomplishment..

    Still something to be proud of when fishing for accolades.. But not an instant criterion for ATG status.. like it was back in the day..

      very true. I agree completely with all you had to say here.

      which is why, especially in this day and age, its better to go by who a fighter beats more than meaningless statistics.

      Id also like to add that its very easy to go up and down in weight nowdays, because of the day before weigh ins. a natural 160lber can fight at 135lbs all the way to 160lbs and still be in good shape nowadays.

      wasnt so easy with the same day weigh ins. you fought at your natural weight class, and if you moved up you weighed less than your opponent. nowdays you have guys moving up two weight classes, and still weighing more than the weight limit the night of the fight

          Very true. Just imagine how many weight classes Sugar ray Robinson would of had. Hell he beat the lightweight champ in his day, though the fight was like 1 pound over the weight limit

          But like you said, its more about who you beat.

                    I think Floyd's biggest brag is that he held the WBC(world recognized belt) for each division he won a belt in. Not to ****suck like my homeboy Mangler said, Lol, But a Super Featherweight going up to Jr Middleweight to beat the number 1 ranked(at the time) Jr Middleweight is something special. Unfortunately, Mayweather's attitude and lobsided decisions forshadows his accomplishments. Still got love for him though.
