The very first paragraph:
"In professional boxing, the undisputed champion of a weight class is a boxer who is recognized as the world champion at that class by all the major sanctioning bodies.[1][2] Which bodies are considered "major" varies."

See that line bolded above. There is a dispute at 140. Bradley disputes Hatton's claim as the undisputed champion, as does Holt. Hatton has been the longest champion there, but he has not beaten all title holders and is not the undisputed champion.Last edited by BennyST; 03-31-2009, 12:01 AM.Comment

Unified= Every Belt
Undisputed = Ring Belt and Universal Recognition as the man
For every belt you have you have to pay a belt holders fee.
this is why baldomir when he beat zab didnt keep all the belts...it was because he didnt want to pay the fee for the WBC,WBO,WBA,IBF, etc.
And Most fighters dont like paying 10% of their purse just to hold 4 titles in one division when everybody already knows that they are the man.
Thats why when fighters get the ring belt, that means they are the man
reguardless of the of having 2 belts or 7 belts. It is too many ABC belts now and days to try and get everyone. so instead you fight the top guys in your division reguardless and become undisputed champion.
If they got rid of the sanction fees for holding belts, everybody would try to hold on to the belts forever. but every org. want to charge too much money to be considered their champion.
That's why when you become become undisputed you are consider the manComment

I recognize The Ring Belt as another "title". Personally, I usually hold The Ring belt in a higher regard than the other titles, but that is opinion, not fact and therefore subjected to debate. Ultimately, The Ring is just another title.
By the way:
Here's list of "undisputed" champions.
Kostya Tszyu was the lasted undisputed champion, which ended in 2003 when he vacated the WBC title.
As of now, or since then, there hasn't been a unification, thus there isn't an undisputed champion. The two go hand in hand.Last edited by deliveryman; 03-31-2009, 12:15 AM.Comment

The Ring belt is the Ring belt.
The WBA is the WBA.
The WBC is the WBC.
The WBO is just that.
The IBF is also just that.
The undisputed champion means you have them all. If you win all, then you will of course become the Ring 'champion' also. Why do you call it the Ring champion Horus? Why isn't Pavlik called the undisputed champion? Why isn't Klit called that, what about Dawson? What about Mayweather in every division he was ever in? He was the man, but he was never undisputed.Comment

undisputed is all 4 of the major orgs wbc , ibf , wba and wbo (it was 3 until recently. the wbo has only received credibility in recent year) AND the ring/lineal title.
only undisputed guys i can think of in recent memory is hopkins and lewis.
even roy was not considered undisputed because dariusz had the wbo belt and was the lineal champ.Comment
