I think it's funny that so many of you think he is fighting bum's when it has more to do with the fact that junior middleweight has almost 0 name fighters in that division.

Sergio Mora was a titlest at one point for christ sake!!

There is definitely some talent and names at 154 and I don't see jr. calling out any of these names:

        Vernon Forrest
        Paul Williams
        Verno Phillips
        Cory Spinks
        Sergio Martinez
        Sergio Mora
        Sergei Dzindziruk
        Daniel Santos
        James Kirkland
        Joachim Alcine
        Alfredo Angulo
        Kermit Cintron
        Yuri Foreman

****, even guys like K9 Bundrage, Grady Brewer, Ishe Smith would be a big step up. And all of these guys are bigger names and more well known then the bums jr has been fighting, that's for sure.

First off, he's young, very young. Some even say younger than the 21 years old he claims to be. Some close to him have admitted he can't be that old and is more like 19 yrs old but needed to start making money so the birth certificate was falsified.

Second, he never had an amateur career. He has about 40 fights so far and is undefeated. Granted it's with lesser opposition but this is sort of his "amateur career" he's going through right now.

There's a few things I see in him that are very good. He has very good fundamentals, you can tell he was taught very well by his father and fights a lot like him. He seems to have a good chin like his father and throws a great left hook to the body. He's tall and long for his weight, something his father never had.

There's a few bad things. He looks inexperienced at times and his defense needs major work. Even though he's tall and long he doesn't use them to his advantage and likes to brawl with his opponents and takes that advantage away from himself at times.

I would never say he is going to be as great as his father but I think people are jumping the gun when it comes to him being a "bum". I think with more fights under his belt and his body growing, he could be a GOOD fighter, maybe even contend for a belt.

          What do you guys think?

            I see your point....

I guess people want to see the son of a legend fight...But you can't blame teh guy for trying to make money right now....I'd do the same thing...

I'm getting tired of all the damn hype for this kid. He's headlining PPVs with World Champions on the undercard! What kind of **** is that? Jr needs to be on the damn undercard. Yeah, it's not his fault that his last name is Chavez, but they're using that **** to the max plus some. The kid is maybe a C level fighter and he should be treated like one. And it looks like he doesn't train as hard as he should, he looks gassed at times against much smaller and very limited fighters; if he's serious about this game he needs to be serious with his training. At the rate of improvement he's showing, he won't be ready for a World Championship until he's had 100 fights.

I guess the hate comes from peoples resentment of him getting a boxing career almost handed to him because he was lucky enough to have JCC as his father. I would watch him if he was on ESPN or Versus, but there is no way he should be headlining a PPV especially when he has never fought anyone I had ever heard of but if people want to buy PPVs with him as the star that is their problem then.

I think he has the tools to be really good, but it's tough to tell when he's fighting C class fighters all the time and he's already had some scares against lesser opponents.

Who knows, maybe he'll show up when the time is right...which seems to be right now. I'd say let him fight Mora if he loses to Pavlik or Cintron is he loses to Angulo.

                    I think it's a bad strategy.

Here is a thread discussing this:
                    http://www.boxingscene.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=257079

I think it would be better for him to get more exposure on ESPN, HBO, and Showtime, rather than isolating himself on small time PPV's. He could increase his fan base which could mean big time PPV's in the future.

                      I agree with this.

I mean he alredy have 40 fights, how many more he needs to be ready. I mean look at Wilfredo Vazquez JR., he doesnt feed himself with his father name and he already with only 16 fights have faced tougher competition that Chavez JR And vazquez JR. doesnt have any type of background either.

I thin JR. is just a bum ready to get KTFO by a half decent fighter, they are just catching on his dad name.

THey should make a fight, with JCC J and Camcho JR. and call it, The rise of the bums!!!!!!!
